Indiana Should Pass Better Bullying Laws
Should better laws be passed to prevent bullying?
By: Sarrah Davis Bullying needs to be stopped! The United States needs better laws to prevent bullying. How much more can teens take? I think laws need to be passed as soon as possible because bellying can cause you to get sick and I don’t mean you don’t have confidence in yourself anymore. WAY too many teens die from suicide each year because of bullying. The commercials on TV don’t scare bullies enough to get them to stop. We need better laws with better punishments! First of all over 160,000 teens skip school every day because they are scared of bullies. Last time I checked you have to be at school to pass. 1 in every 10 teens drops out of school each year because of bullying. Teachers rarely see bullying going on but when they do only 4% of teachers do something about it. I did a survey and 61% of students have been bullied. 52% of kids have bullied someone before. 96% of kids have seen someone getting bullied but only 65% of students attempted to help that person. 50% of students think that bullying is a problem. Most teens don’t tell adults about bullying because it makes it worse or it is ineffective. Secondly, over 4,400 teens take their lives each year from bullying. 100 teens attempt it each year. 14% of teen’s conceder it, but only 7% of teens actually tries it. Have you ever considered it? In 1996 more teens died from suicide than cancer, heart disease, aids, birth defects, stroke, pneumonia, influenza and chronic lung disease CONBINED! That is a serious problem. Many teen have committed suicide, for example Megan Myers she was cyber bullied so bad that she hung herself 3 weeks before her 14th birthday. There is way more stories just like that. It’s not fair how teens take their lives because of bullying. It gets even worse when students bring guns to school to “get back everyone who has ever hurt them.” 75% of school shootings are because teens are on suicide missions so they kill there selves

As researchers are saying bullying in schools is becoming more common, and nothing is really being done about it. In the article Bullying In Schools author Ron Banks states some statistics, “approximately 15 percent of students are bullied regularly or are initiators of bullying”. When students are being bullied they never really tell anybody about it because they don’t want to be known as a “tattle tale”, and get bullied more. Most of bullying comes from children who are living in a home with physical punishment, so they learn to be aggressive and mean. “60 percent of those characterized as bullies in grades 6-9 had at least one criminal conviction by the age of 24.”# The main reason why kids become bullies is so they get a reaction,…

Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…

Bullying in society is seen as a minor thing. Bullying is made into something humorous through movies, songs, television, and stereotyping. This means almost one-third of students are dealing with this widespread dilemma, and it is only getting worse with more outlets for bullying such as social networking and easier access to the internet than ever before. Bullying in all forms is a threat to teenagers and can have serious or even deadly consequences to its…
