INDIA OF MY DREAMS
INDIA OF MY DREAMS
Being from the sports background, I always wished my country to be the champions in sports in different disciplines may be Cricket, Hockey etc etc. My wishes were limited to sports but never thought of imagining India of my Dream in a vast context till the said topic was given for assignment.
While going through the sources, I happen to read Dr. Abdul Kalam’s question to one little girl, what was her dream for India? She replied “I dream of a developed India”. Giving a thought to what she said, I learned that her answer may be short but her dream was very big. Now it was a time for me to think of the same issue...that’s India of my dream. This is a topic, which is as deep like an ocean which has dangerous Sharks as well as the beautiful pearls. There is so much to dream about India; so much to cherish, so much to wish for, so much to hate and so much to desire about it. The real problem is what to write down and what to omit.
Before going towards the future, I thought to just turn aback n have a look at the India in past. India has long sad history of our existence as a country under the ruling of Mugals, Nizams and the most awful, the British. After the huge exploitation of our motherland by these emperors, India attained independence on August 15, 1947. What has she achieved during Sixty Five plus… years of freedom? Though there has been considerable progress, the overall picture of life in the country is depressing. What with spiraling prices and growing unemployment, the common man remains as poor as he had been. Though education has spread, its standard and quality have received a set - back.
Not is the political scene very encouraging. While the working of democracy is not satisfactory, the forces of religion, these Nakshalwad has become a a threat to the unity of the country. Our leaders lack the qualities of idealism, integrity and self - sacrifice, which were abundantly in evidence during the days of the struggle for freedom.

India completes its 60 years of independence in 2007. She is a young nation of one billion plus people with its share of problems. Being a developing nation, we have shortage of resources and a large growing population stresses them further. No one can dispute the need to moderate and stabilize the population to utilize the national resources better and have an improved standard of living for its masses. But how we go about achieving that is important for success and of concern to its inhabitant.…

As a blossoming republic, India has emerged from the shadow of colonialism to evolve as one of the fastest growing world economies, transforming millions of lives in her wake. Always equated with snake charmers, elephants, half-naked fakirs, the rope trick, the holy cow, crowds and pollution, India is now known for her educated manpower, software engineers, Bollywood, professional NRIs and business magnets, among other things. The country has achieved self-sufficiency in almost all areas and has developed into one of the top ten industrial world powers. However it must be noted that India’s development is rather twisted, with her communications not matching her cost-effective explosion.…

India is a country with an amazing diversity. With the onset of the new millennium, historians, sociologists and other experts predict that only three Asian countries seem to be having the potential of taking Asia to great heights i.e., India, China and Japan, Japan is of course economically challenging but China and India seem to be more dominating and promising because of their impressive size and man power, India marching gloriously ahead after her independence, is emerging as a force to reckon with. But a lot needs to be done on the home front with illiteracy, population explosion, poverty, unemployment, corrupt politicians etc. Besides this, we have failed to provide basic needs of to all the citizens like safe and clean drinking water, housing, sanitation, a square meal a day, medical facilities etc. moreover, the problem of malnutrition, AIDS etc, are growing day by day. According to the report of WHO about lakh Indians were suffering from AIDS at the beginning of the millennium and by 2010 if sufficient measures are not taken India will overtake Africa in HIV infection status.…

Now, what would be the future of India in the coming years of this century? Can we project and predict the future of India as a nation with some certainty and precision? Are we in a position to predict the conditions that are likely to prevail in future? How would the country look like, say after a decade? These are really very crucial questions. Should we expect a brave new world, full of peace, prosperity, hope, dynamism and health or a world congested, overpopulated, and full of despair, selfishness, polluted and dominated by narrow, parochial and self-seeking politicians? Perhaps, we cannot answer these questions with the desired precision, accuracy and exactness. However, the subject is really thrilling, exciting and interesting. There is no harm in making a guess about the shape of events and things in the coming years.…

India is surrounded by every possible social, economical and political issue along huge potential. The president of the USA, Barak Obama in his recent visit to India said that India is not developing, it is developed. Indeed India is a developed nation if we look into the GDP, government expenditure, few metro cities and life style of a branch of rich people. The people of India have built a strong image in the mind of foreigners who does not have access to the internal situation of this romantic country. It is accepted by all that this nation holds huge amount of capability for development. Lord Meghnad Desai, who argued, not without irony, that whatever else happens, “the government can still sit back and say 8.6 per cent”.…

A lot of progress has been made on various fronts. There have been short comings in our planning as well as its implementation. However when we notice other counties, who also achieved independence around the same time, we feel we are much better placed.…
