Independence Day of India
15th August 1947, the day of our independence! We were given complete freedom for this land and nation. A seat of equality and self respect was given to us. We were offered membership and voice among free nations of the world.

People celebrate the day with a lot of enthusiasm. They decorate buildings, houses and streets. Tricolor flags are unfurled along the roads and on the buildings. School children take part in the celebration more vigorously. They prepare for to welcome the area leaders who come and unfurl the national flag on the centre point. This is followed by the singing of National Anthem by entire group and teachers. Slogans are raised and the function ends with a speech by the chief guest. Sweets are distributed and the function closes with announcement and notifications.

Last year, I joined a function in my colony. The president and the secretary invited Prof. V. K. Malhotra as chief guest of the function. He came with his wife and brother at 6 a.m. He met the invited gentry and mixed with them. He was, then, conducted to the central dais, where the flag pole was fixed. The flag was hoisted and a shower of rose petals fell from the flag. The cool breeze of morning swing the flag on the top of the pole. Prof. Malhotra was later on conducted to the stage, where the colony children sang National Song and National Anthem. Some of the dances were presented by the local dance school. Then a few speeches were made by the president and the secretary of the colony. They emphasized for the co-operation of the residents for improved maintenance of the society.

President informed about the programmes to be followed in the coming year. He assured to look into the grievances of the residents and his efforts in evolving a solution. July 4, 1776 is the day the American colonies declared their independence from the British Empire. There were thirteen colonies at the time. It all began when Great Britain kept on trying to make the colonists follow more rules and pay higher taxes. Unfair taxes created a lot of anger among the American colonists. When Britain continued to tax, the colonies formed the First Continental Congress to persuade the British government to recognize their rights. When this didn’t work a war was declared, which is known as the American Revolution. In fact, one act of protest became so famous it’s known as the “Boston Tea Party”, which took place in 1773. Basically, a group of colonists threw tea from the British East India Company into the water of Boston Harbor. This was one act of the American Revolution. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert R. Livingston, and Roger Sherman. All thirteen colonies stood behind the Declaration of Independence and adopted it in full on July 4, 1776. A second Continental Congress was formed. France supported the American Revolution and we won the war with help from the French. The Congress appointed a committee to write a document that would tell Great Britain that the Americans had decided to govern themselves. On July 4th the Congress approved the declaration. The 13 colonies were no longer part of the British Empire and had become independent states. The way that the 4th of July is celebrated is that we shoot fireworks, lightning up the skies and the rivers. Also, we have family picnics, barbecues, political speeches, and baseball…

June 25, 1986 was the last day of my childhood. I was 16 years old graduating from high school; the next morning I would be on a train going of to a college to a strange city, all by myself…This scenario might sound very appealing and fairly common to an American, but for a young girl born and raised in the Soviet Union this situation was scary and challenging. In Belarus (part of the former USSR) families stayed close together. Young people especially girls would go to a local college or university and continue living with their parents, until they got married. This kind of life had a lot of predictability, security, and stability. At the age of sixteen I was about to abandon that life and embark on an unpredictable journey to independence. The day before I became independent, the day of the graduation from high school, had also become the day of extreme emotional turmoil for me.…

Malaysia was born in August 31, 1957. It has been 56 years since then. That day was a day that everyone should remember and never forget till they die. Because this day was the day that Malaysia was free from the British. It is to commemorate the independence of the Federation of Malaya from British colonial rule on 31 August 1957. In a wider context, it also celebrates the formation of Malaysia. On the 30th of August, Malaysia’s then Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman took to the Royal Selangor Club Padang, now known as the Merdeka square at 11.58pm and observed two minutes of darkness. At the stroke of midnight, the Union Jack was lowered and raised with the Flag of Malaya. The morning after, Tunku Abdul Rahman read aloud the Proclamation of Independence, followed by seven chants of Merdeka, with the crown at the square joining following each chant. The moment is considered to be one of Malaysia’s most memorable and significant points in history.…

The heartfelt invocation which started the program made the whole crowd in silence, and then it was being followed by our national anthem. The idea to exert a little effort to make the students alive to start the seminar was very much appreciated; the singing portion participated by talented ladies and the “pick-up lines” that were thrown by CMBT students made the crowd awake. I was happy when our department dean Marilou Pascual and the Vice Presidents of our campus started to share their inspirational messages, it was like we’re so privileged to hear words of wisdom coming from them. After the speech of our dean and of the vice presidents, an energetic dance number was performed by selected third year students, I guess many of us was entertained but somehow, somewhere I heard voices of my fellow students saying “ang inet naman!”, well I proved them right because I was also experiencing irritation because of the hot weather. Most of us students got excited because Sir. Arjhel Domingo the master of the ceremony just announced that before Mr. Simangan speak, we must first get our food!, so it’s “Merienda Time!” I’m just a bit disappointed about our drinks, it’s because it was warm! But at least the bread included was just fine. After the break time, Mr. Domingo finally introduced our resource speaker. I thought that Mr. Simangan will be just boring, but I was wrong because I enjoyed listening to him and with the use of the prepared presentation seen through the projector, I was able to understand more what Mr. Richard was saying. The resource speaker shared lots of things related to marketing as well as selling like strategies to win customers, marketing process,…
