Indentify the current legislations, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e safety.

The safeguarding of children and young people is very important and therefore many legislations, guidelines, policies and procedures are put in place for the welfare of the children.
Before you can work in a setting with children you have to have a crb check (criminal record bureau) this is a diclosured document that reveals details of any convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings the applicant had received, together with details of whether that person is banned from working with children or vulnerable adults. This check makes sure that you are suitable to work with children and to make sure that the children will not be put in danger in the setting.
The concept of safeguarding, which works to protect children had only been around for 50 years. Legislations are always being updated and improved, it was highlighted that they needed improving by high profile cases such as Victoria Climbie in 2000, it is cases like these that reveal weaknesses in the procedures.
The United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child (1989) is an international human rights treaty that grants all children a comprehensive set of rights. The convention has 54 articles and it sets out in detail what every child needs to have for a safe, happy and fulfilled childhood. Article 19 states children’s rights to be ‘protected from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse’ by those looking after them. The UK signed up to the treaty in 1991 and all UN states apart from the United States and Somalia have now formally approved the convention and are legally bound to implement legislation which supports each of the articles.
There are several different acts for safeguarding the welfare of children.
