Incident Which Changed My Life
When recollecting the incidents having certain impact on my life, I remember the one which actually changed my perception of reality a lot. That was not the one happening to me, but I was a kind of involved in it, observed it from the outside, and eventually it influenced me greatly.
I used to have a friend of mine a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, she has moved to another state and we do not see each other often nowadays. Christine, – let me call her that way in the present narrative, – has always been a really nice person. She has always been responsive, sincere, smart and talented; she has also always been understanding, carrying and supportive. She used to be different from many other girls of same age. She used to have few friends, never being too much concerned about finding the new ones. Christine felt perfectly fine both when being in a company and when being alone. It was not because she was closed or unsociable; it was more because she had a really nice family and loved to spend time with her relatives.
We were really close at those times, so I used to spend a lot of time at her place, communicating regularly with her parents, her sister and her grandparents. I need to confess: I was extremely jealous of her having such a great family. They all were just wonderful. It is not that I don’t have a good family of my own, it is just that they were absolutely amazing. They were all as close as best friend, with the differences in age and gender being completely ignored. I understood Christine perfectly well when on the Saturday night she preferred to be with her family instead of visiting some sort of a party. I had always readily accepted her invitations to spent time with her and her family when I got one, and always had a great time indeed. Their relationships were amazingly natural and easy. I cannot remember their having some serious quarrel for even once. They were all equal in their little world of mutual trust and understanding. The idyll I observed when visiting Christine’s family served as a proof of the existence of perfect families, where betrayal, unfaithfulness and mutual condemnation were impossible.
And then one day everything changed. I remember starting to see Christine with her face being tear-stained and unnaturally pale. She was obviously depressed. I was getting invitations to visit her place no more. I didn’t want to put additional pressure on her by asking annoying questions or by being irritatingly inquiring, so I just waited till she had a need to talk to someone. Once, on a party, late at night after everyone had already went to bed, we were sitting and chatting, and she told me everything. It turned out that she had occasionally run across suspicious messages on her father’s cell phone. It seemed to her like he was communicating intimately with some woman. Christine didn’t tell her mother anything, trying to persuade herself that she could get it all wrong. Eventually it turned out that she hadn’t.
Those messages were from the one woman with whom Christine’s father had had sexual relationship for two years up to the moment when my friend discovered them. Somewhat in a week after Christine’s finding the scandal broke out. It turned out that Christine’s mother was for a long time suspecting her husband of being unfaithful to her by then. In no more than a week a perfect family turned into the one experiencing a damaging power of betrayal.
No need to say I was shocked by what I had heard. I just couldn’t imagine things like that happening in the family being so close to ideal. I realized how my friend was completely miserable going through situation like that. Even I, who was in no way a member of the family, was rather wretched. I was unhappy to discover that there were no perfect families. I concluded that even if in family like that bad times happened, there was no chance to create a fine family with problems like that excluded. Naturally, the impact the trouble had on Christine cannot be compared to the one it had on me. However it had a surprisingly significant influence on my views of life, family relationships in particular.

When people talk about life changing events, they usually talk about families’ death or certain path they took, which shaped their life. Just like any other people, one of my close friends mother, who is originally from Nepal has experienced such life changing events such as leaving their home country behind for better opportunities for themselves or their loved ones, which not only changed her, but also changed the way she anticipated her life to be. When my friends’ mother left her country Nepal, she did not only leave the country itself, but also had to leave her relatives behind. Migrating from home country to another must have been hard because of language and culture barrier. I admire the step she took because it’s tough to move from a place you grew up at down to a whole new country. It must have been hard for her to make such life changing decision, but she did it anyways because she knew if she migrates from Nepal to United States, her children would have better opportunities in life. She has inspired me to be strong. She motivates me no matter what decision I make, I have to stick with it 100% and give my best at it because wherever I go or whatever I do, life will move with me. It’s my choice to either make the most of it or slouch back and cry about it. My friend’s mom is someone who I really admire. She has been through so much and she stayed strong throughout everything. I know for a fact that I will have a life changing experience just like my friends mother because in Indian traditions, we always have to migrate away from parents to go move in with the husband’s side of the family. So this would be a life changing event due to all the moving away from family. It’s hard phase of life. My other best friend had a life changing experience about her divorced parents. This was a really devastating time of her childhood. She told me that about four years ago, she had a life ‘makeover’. It was the day her parents decided to get divorced. She was fifteen…

    Life Changing Event

Throughout my life I can definitely say that I have one life-changing event that rises above the rest. In my junior year of high school, 2008, a very close friend of mine, Renay, passed away unexpectedly. At only 16, she fell victim to a drunk driving accident. Renay was a dear friend to me. We had a special friendship and connection we shared through dance and sports. I miss the days when life was simple; we would go to the mall to hangout and shop for shoes. This was one of our favorite things to do together. One year for her birthday, which happened to coincide with spring break, she and her family went down to Rosarito. Three days before her birthday she and her cousin were driving back to their hotel from a restaurant where her cousin was drinking. As they were driving in Rosarito there are very winding roads. Renay’s cousin was speeding and lost control of the vehicle, unfortunately going down a cliff. The morning I got the call saying she was in an accident and didn’t make it was the day my life had changed, I remember falling to the ground in tears thinking is this an awful dream I will eventually wake up from. The answer was no, she was gone and I would never be able to hold or hug her again. Joseph T. O’Connor explains in his article “A view from Mount Ritter” “It’s funny how these memories keep coming back to me as if it were just yesterday”(13). I agree with O’Connor there is not a day that passes by that I do not think of Renay and her tragic loss. My friends and I did so many fundraisers to help her family bring her body back from Rosarito. We were able to help her family tremendously. Her funeral was in Ohio where she was originally from, the car ride up to Ohio from San Diego was quit and sad because we all knew with everything we did to help her family would not bring back our sweet Renay. As a result of the death of my best…

I didn’t listen to my mom, I would sneak out the house, and I got into a lot of trouble with the police for fighting a lot, and always skipped school. I never hung out with people that did anything good. The people I hung out with where negative. Well one day I went to school and got into a really bad fight and ended up in a juvenile facility over it. I was there for about a month went to court and the judge put me on probation for 3 years. Well I still thought I could do what I wanted to do. So I still kept doing the same behavior I was doing before then. Needless to say I ended up violating probation when I was 15 and they locked me up. I was in a juvenile facility for 3 months then went to court and they put me in a program for 1 year. Well when I got to the program I thought it was going to be easy. But I ended up finding it was actually very difficult. Well after I got out of my program I decided that was something I had never wanted to experience again. So still to this day, and am 21 now, I have not been back in jail or nothing. I have been abiding by the laws and actually I am doing really well for myself. But…

About three years ago, I met up with a friend on Facebook. I hadn’t seen her in probably 15 years. She had changed, not only in appearance, but in the ways of the world as well. It had seemed life had “caught up with her”. The girl I remember was this cute little blonde in high school with long, blonde hair, beautiful complexion, a lot of friends and boyfriends, and a good sense of direction with what she wanted to do with her life. Well, it seemed to me that fate had different plans for her. After making arrangements for my children, which wasn’t easy because let’s face it, people just don’t want to watch your kids while you hang out with your friends, my friend and I went to the local club in town. I don’t think I had been out like this in quite a while, but looked forward to getting dressed up and just talking to an adult. This night was going to be fun, but first, I had to drive to her house to pick her up because she didn’t have a car at this time (not sure she has one now). So, I pull into this trailer park and this redheaded, chunky, girl with a pound of makeup comes stumbling out the door down the steps. She was dressed in tight jeans and a shirt that looked like my teenage daughter could…
