Incest In One Hundred Years Of Solitude
The tendency of committing incest is one of the main topics in One Hundred Years of Solitude. Acts of incest are present in every generation of the Buendias and escaping from them seems to be impossible for all the members of the family. Jose Arcadio Buendia and his wife Ursula Iguaran tried to escape from their incestuous destiny and killer reputation by leaving their hometown and establishing Macondo. However not only their attempt was a fail, but they also transferred their problem of incest in a new town. The things in the novel are moving in a cyclic evolution, in so called cyclic set of circumstances. History repeats itself together with the names and personalities of the characters. Taking into consideration this fact it is permissible to assume that Ursula and Jose Arcadio Buendia are not the first in their bloodlines, who was engaged in incest. Hence, they were intuitively forced to continue the perverse cycle although their relatives, who were afraid that those two because of belonging to the same

The incest was against their moral and that is why they often behave hypocritically, however the suppressed desires finally go out. An example of such an explosion of desires can be Pillar Ternera and Petra Cotes. These women were discharging the energy of the incestuous men of Buendia family. Colonel Aureliano Buendia and Jose Arcadio, both had desires towards their mother and both of them had sex with and children from Pillar Ternera. Jose Arcadio even imagined his mother while fucking Pillar Ternera. The interesting fact is that even Ursula was feeling bad because of her sons relationship with Pillar. It is mentioned in the text that Jose Arcadio was first naked man she saw in her life after her husband. The fact that author mentiones these thoughts points out that Ursula also had certain desires towards her
