In My Computers
As I started to read the poem “In my computers” by Alan P. Lightman, I did not understand what the author wanted the readers to understand; however, I reread it several times and I started to figure out several thoughts. One of the first thoughts that came into my mind was that he is obviously talking about technology, but he is talking way beyond technology. He is talking about the distinctive programs that computers share today with us humans. The programs that today computers share are not common and definitely not like the ones we used to have in the old days; in the old days there were not even computers. With today’s technology, computers can show us the new world. We do not have to get ready and go to see what is happening to the world. We just need to take a look to our computer and let technology show us the nature, the people, and everything that surround us.
I figured out that Alan P. Lightman is trying to show us a new world, the world of computers. Today society ensures their lives to computers, they trust to death that nothing will happen if we save everything to computers. Is it really true?, I believe that computers are turning humans into their own weapon. In a weapon that will kill themselves. What I am trying to say is that if humans continue to reinsuring their lives to computers then everything will be lost. What happened to the old days? We may not be looking bright, but we are destroying the beauty of nature by putting computers as our first priority. It should not be like this and this is what computers are making to humans.
Computers technology ensures the beauty of nature as it is by looking by our own eyes. They share pictures, videos, blogs, and so on that makes you feel that you are outside. They ensure your memories to be saved for a very long time. We do not know what is going to happen to the world and our generation may not be able to have evidence of how today’s world it is and computers ensure that, but are we sure that

Whereas I did not grow up with computers, but just introduced, my children are growing up with technology and computers at the forefront. It is becoming a necessity to know and understand the technological age. Postman has not convinced me that technology and computers are evil and destructive to the world, as I see things differently. I see the growing organizations that can now take their businesses globally due to the expansion in technology. I see the clothing industries, for instance, becoming more efficient and advanced by being able to create different looks and cuts and set distribution…

In this current gen, it’s almost impossible to imagine that someone can live without computers. Computers have become an electronic device used almost daily and used from individuals of every age. When someone is looking up a question that can’t be answered by themselves or anyone else around, who do you ask? Answering he/she question or oneself can only get easier by just accessing a computer. Having access to the computer will bring you access to the internet which has all the questions and information one might ask for. “Computers are used in education for a variety of purposes. Students benefit from using them as tools and resources for gathering information” (Barrus). This shows how technology itself has been proven to be worthy of aiding society over time. Computers have been a huge beneficial factor towards society advancing in education, health, and communication. And what brings this technology to life is society. “Society” the first thought that comes to mind when heard or seen, is a group of people within a community. Society itself is what brings technology to excel such as the computer. Within a society you’re going to have citizens (people) who make up the society. That being said there will be people out there who’s interested in innovation; new ideas and new inventions. “Businesses have been transformed as well, and computers are found in corporations, factories, doctor's offices, hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges, universities, retail and commercial enterprises; literally every concern in every country uses computers” (Barrus) this shows how widely computers are used. To be more specific, computers have beneficially advanced education, health and communications. Computers allows learners to learn modern tools and knowledge that will make him or her ready for technological changes for the near future.…

Computers have been our best friend for rather a long time. Nowadays we seek technology, and we cannot live without it. Our consciousness tries to pull us into it deeper and deeper. The real problem is not that we are not able to escape, but we do not want to escape. The virtual life has made us a very comfortable place to work, play or communicate. We believe that the technology life is real when it is not. Computers are not bad, and they are not going to give us any harm if we will use it in a right direction. The realization of that, unfortunately, has not come to us yet. Technology used in a wrong way is bringing us to fear of sharing feelings in a real life and not having the knowledge of computers. In this essay, I would like to support Sherry Turkle’s views on today’s impact. She is a professor at MIT who has some very interesting ideas and thoughts.…

The first time I gazed upon a computer- at a friend’s house, young and curious, and that exact moment, my adventure with technology started. I ran home and turned on my family’s ancient, bulky, computer and with my small clumsy hands, unfamiliar with the mechanics of this device. Although I had no clue how to use this foreign object, the bright flashy lights captivated me; my eyes were locked on this screen that I so desperately wanted to understand. My parents soon realized that our family needed access to the internet like everyone else, we were lagging behind. Having internet was a double edged sword- I could explore the free web to my heart’s content, but I didn’t realize that my PC was far too old to hold up any longer. Soon afterwards, my first computer met it’s end.…

In 1981, IBM sold the first "PC", made from an 8088 processor with a clock speed of 4.77 MHz. It wasn’t the first computer ever made, but it was the first computer sold to ordinary people. We have moved on, we have made changes, and we have progressed to enhance computers. Computers have found their way into many aspects of our lives. In most cases computers make things easier for us. Computers have helped us so much, yet people seem to think we have come to be too dependent on them. Are computers really hurting our lifestyles? They have allowed us to learn, to communicate, and to organize making life just a little less stressful. Computers are great for the future of our world and will be greatly needed as we have many more things to discover in the near future and beyond. People may complain and argue that computers are just too much but they will see the truth when life needs more organization ,more communication and more education. Yes we could survive without computers, but the truth is… do we want to when we realize just what a computer can do for us. Computers are a central data base with thousands of resources instruments and tools that can help change the way we live. Yes we can use books and other resources to learn, but isn’t it nice to highlight the facts we need to know and take out the rest. Furthermore I will continue to discuss the reasons why computers are good and why we have not become overly dependent on them.…

Humans have always looked for the easy way out. Computers are society's new way of achieving the easy way out. Computers give us a quick fix. This is creating a society that is accustomed to instant gratification. Lee Meserve from ohio state university believes that we rely on technology too much in todays society. In the journal, “The Problem with Relying on Technology” Meserve states, “ We learn things that work perfectly well every time; then we find an easier way that has flaws and we forget the time-tested mechanism.” What Lee is saying is that we abandon all old forms of getting what we want. It is very hard to return to these old ways however. With the implication of the computer into society, most believe that pursuing old fashioned techniques is redundant. Computers are not become a quick fix anymore, they are becoming necessary because people do not see the value in implementing old techniques.…

When my brother and I got our first computer, we couldn’t even begin to comprehend the amounts of informations we could access. So we just began using it for benign things, like video games and music. It was already at that point when we realized that this is something revolutionary, something that will not go away in a couple of years. Just ten years ago, I couldn’t imagine anything more advanced than what I had in my room. The first ever computer was the famous ENIAC; it weighed about thirty tons, and was about thirty meters long. And now, ten years later, on my desk there’s a display and a computer in a two foot tablet with more processing speed than what was and is being used in space programs.…
