Imagine a world, where the movies are all you have to go off of to learn about animals, to see certain animals, and to experience animals in their natural habitat. Zoo keeping started in 1752 at the Schon Brunn Palace in Vienna, Austria. It was brought to the public in 1765. A zoo is a place where exotic and also non-exotic animals live, and are shown to visitors. Zoo keeping is valuable and important because they educate children, they keep animals from becoming extinct, and they bring families together.
From time to time, people fail to see the importance and value of zoos. There are some who may say that they treat their animals poorly. According to the article (“Zoos”), the US Department of Agriculture requires only captive animals to be able to stand up and turn around in their cages. If you have ever been to a zoo, you know that their cages are much larger than what is required. According to (“Elibrary: Zoos”), as the number of zoo’s become higher, so does the need for animals. The article says that when the animals are captured for the zoo, they must kill their moms to eliminate the chances of a protective mother coming after her young, there for attacking the captivator. This is very hard to believe, and if it’s true than yes that’s pretty sick, but they would die sometime on their own anyways, perhaps from a more horrific cause than doing it humanely. Another problem people have with zoo’s, is that they treat their animals poorly. This is almost like an urban legend, it was a theory created in the seventeen hundreds, and just stuck throughout history. Although the more modern times may still repeat some of the old traditions, it is not nearly as bad as it used to be. The article (“Animals in Entertainment”) PETA, people for the ethical treatment of animals, states that they have video footage of circus’ using instruments such as bull hooks, whips, and muzzles on their animals.
