As functioning members of society, the majority of us will enter into a world of work. In this “world” we will all encounter different types of employees. Organizations are divided into four levels. From the top down, these levels are: top management, middle managers, supervisors, and operative employees. All levels are important to have a functioning organization. It’s important that all levels be functioning effectively, including supervisors. As defined, supervisors are a “part of an organizations’ management team, supervisors oversee the work of operative employees and are the only managers who don’t manage other managers” (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Wolter, 9). With the current work environment, being an effective supervisor is an important role. A supervisor plays a vital part in being the connection between managers and operative employees. A supervisor can be described in many ways such as a trainer, advisor, mentor, facilitator, or coach. Being given the authority by any organization to direct others is a huge responsibility! You must maintain good relationships with peers as well as those above you all while keeping in mind and accomplishing that organizations’ goals. Supervisors must be able to assert their authority in effective manner to get the job done while keeping the welfare of their employees in mind. The skills in being a supervisor are many but supervisors are extremely important to any organization. Recently at my current place of employment, we came into contact with another company that could have benefited from developing effective supervisory skills. Just to provide some background information, I work for a pest control company. Our company orders pesticides in order to provide services to our customers. These chemicals are sometimes required to be delivered through special carriers versus UPS or FedEx due to safety reasons. Once we order product(s) through our representative, he ships our order
