A 911 operator is not that of a popular job with a low annual salary. They do piles of paper work as well as completing multiple tedious task while having to stay calm in stressful situations which I could do if I had to but I would not be too happy with myself if I became one, because I strive to be better and go higher then just working in a small room all day answering phone calls. I know that this job is extremely important and somebody has to do it but its just not for me.…
Paramedics and nurses have many similarities as well as many differences. Often in an ER setting paramedics and nurses must work together to accomplish things quicker since there are many patients to take care of. I will be discussing some of the differences of these two similar professions including how to become a RN and a paramedic, what is required in order to work in an ER, how orders are given, pay scale differences, and how paramedics and nurses interact with each other.…
In large-scale medical emergencies, emergency medical service (EMS) officers coordinate ambulatory transportation for victims, while relying heavily on information from responders in the field. An Emergency Medical Technician’s job is to offer a second chance for someone, and they hope they can fix all one’s issues before moving on to the next patient. But, what if there are too many patients to fix each one of their issues, and you are by yourself. Welcome to the world of a mass casualty incident and triage, where life or death decisions are made. I was still training to become a basic EMT. My friends and I were quite confident in our skills, especially since we were three days from graduation, but then we had to undergo the most grueling simulation, Triage. Triage broke everyone’s confidence and made us all rethink the way we act and treat patients.…
In order to develop a career in the EMS field, you must have a passionate heart for people and caring for them. Becoming a First Responder, you must agree to the fact that your life is second. Tending, caring and providing safety precautions for patients always come first. I can make a difference in patient health care by many different methods. The most important is showing and teaching them mental and emotional coping skills to deal with stressful situations. As well as communicating with other members of healthcare to provide positive and safety outcomes. Building a trust relationship not just with the patients, but family members as well and pointing out that their health comes first, and I will stop at nothing to ensure that promise. As…
There was always a desire in me to opt for a profession in which I could contribute to the society and help the people in need. What better way to do this than to be a paramedic who tirelessly works to aid people in distress. On joining this profession, one must learn to apply theoretical knowledge that to clinical and field situations. One must also learn many procedures and constantly update those skills. No day is a routine day. Every day, the shifts are different, the locations changed and clinical scenarios unique. The work pertains to attending calls such as trauma, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, substance overdose and many other situations and every call teaches some lesson. Apart from providing clinical help, paramedics have to act as efficient organisers and counsellors. Paramedics are often relied upon to control and direct emergency situations, this responsibility and challenging tasks is what draws me to become a practicing paramedic.…
On a typical day, a paramedic will respond to 9-1-1 calls. They may be taking a little old lady with hip pain to the hospital or rushing someone to the emergency room who's in cardiac arrest. They have to quickly but thoroughly assess the patient to determine injuries/illnesses and the severity of them. They are going to provide first aid and critical care to the sick and injured. They may also transfer people from one medical facility to another. After the patient is taken care of and is where they need to be, the paramedics are going to have to do paperwork and document what happened and what they did. They are going to also have to clean the interior of the ambulance to get rid of any blood or germs that could contaminate the next patient. They are going to have to wipe down things such as the gurney and the blood pressure cuff. Paramedics are going to restock anything that they might have used on a call to ensure that there is enough of whatever supply they may have used so that it can be ready for the next time that they need it. Most of the time, a paramedic is going to work in either a 12 hour shift or a 24 hour shift, and work on average about 40 hours a…
The health dangers imposed on paramedics are daunting when observed from the outsider’s perspective. They have constant exposure to contagious and infectious diseases from their patients or needles that may be haphazardly placed. Infectious diseases are especially dangerous for paramedics because they receive patients at the peak of the infection instead of through the treatment process, they are also the individuals who are least protected against the possibility of infection because they lack the time and proper equipment to ensure quarantine. Patient and paramedic interaction is an important indicator of exposure risks since many times paramedics must carry patients from emergency situations; as a result they have physical contact with their patients as opposed to nurses and doctors who only get exposure through secondary contact (Boyd 2003). Paramedics are also exposed to numerous chemicals that could cause burns or…
