Going to this website and taking this test was very interesting. It was definitely not what I expected it to be nor did it ask me the types of questions I thought it might. The result of my test was that my data suggested a strong automatic preference for Light Skin compared to Dark Skin. Even though these results were given to me, I do not believe that they are accurate. I have no preference in any person’s skin color. I do not judge anybody by their skin color but rather who they are as people. I also think that it is extremely difficult to accurately measure prejudice. When doing tests like this, most people will answer what they think is politically correct or how they think they

    I took the skin-tone IAT and my data suggested a strong automatic preference for light skin compared to dark skin. I knew that I may or may not have agreed with some parts of the test results; however, I strongly disagree with the results that I actually did receive.     I picked this test because there are hundreds of people I encounter weekly that have a different skin color than me. I have never been one to hold prejudices, so I was interested to find out the results.     I think that the results of my IAT were accurate. One of the surveys I took was a question asking me “How much do you like Asians, Blacks, Hispanics and Whites?” The survey is supposed to assess conscious beliefs and attitudes. We as humans possess different thoughts and feeling that we do not consciously realize or recognize. This survey had me sort through faces and words by using the I and E keys. The survey measures how fast and accurate you can categorize the words and pictures. The results of my IAT showed that I was very accurate and positive with the groups in this order: Whites, Asians, blacks, and Hispanics. I can agree with this result because it makes sense; that I recognized my ethnicity before other ethnicities. I think you should take the test a few times before getting a valid answer, there were a few times where I pressed the wrong key because I was trying to go through the pictures and words fast like it says. I think that prejudice can be difficult to measure accurately because people can hide their feelings, emotions and opinions easily. They could be prejudice but not show it when taking surveys and tests but when walking down the street a person could be prejudice.     I feel I accept everyone equally, include everyone and don’t discriminate against any differences. However, the results came out differently. My results concluded I have an automatic preference to African Americans versus European Americans and had a 33% strong automatic response for able people versus disabled people. When the results were displayed I was automatically offended the quiz stated I have a bias. However, as I thought more in-depth, I might not have been aware of my actions and had an unconscious bias.
