Butler’s Information Resources department played a major role in establishing the new VoIP system at Butler University. The IS department began this entire project by first researching the current system at Butler and identifying what they currently had, and what they needed. They looked at the features provided by Centrex and how their current system worked and developed a plan of what they needed to improve and add to their system. Butler’s IS department researched other systems, listened to vendor presentations, and set up interviews with numerous potential providers in order to narrow down their decision of what system they would be installing. The IS department came across a system called VoIP that was extremely intriguing to them. Although it was a fairly new and expensive system, they saw it as an opportunity to improve their current system drastically. “Only twelve to thirteen percent of the market had VoIP installed in 2004. Even though the telecommunications landscape was changing with an emerging trend of increasing IP lines, the current statistics were still daunting and left us wondering if this was a good path to…

Ericsson was able to instantly take advantage of Amazon’s resources. Amazon’s AWS is able to build and manage a global infrastructure to the scale Ericsson needed to support their business. This infrastructure already being in place provides a cost savings benefit. They had the ability to deploy new applications and automated software updates instantly because they were able to scale up and down as demand changed or the business required it. They could access their cloud from anywhere thanks to the freedom of remote access. The web services provided Ericsson with a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform with data center locations in the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Japan. The company chose Amazon Web Services (AWS) because they felt AWS was the most integrated public cloud provider in the Rightscale Cloud Management Platform (Rightscale). “The Ericsson team states that having hosting centers in various regions was important for them. AWS also showed a better quality of service with solid management and a proven track record.” (Amazon Web Services, 2012)…

The potential of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) adoption is being accelerated by the current global economic recession which has forced many organizations globally to cut back on their telecommunications expenses while increasing the duration, number and variety of calls being made globally. The primary catalysts of VoIP’s growth are its potential for cost reductions, operational improvements in organizations, convergence and business tool integration, and the development of entirely new services (Bayer, Xu, Rakocevic, Habermann, 2010). State-of-the-art VoIP systems are capitalizing on these market forces today and will continue to be adopted and contribute to the growth of enterprise-wide deployments of call centers, service centers, trading networks and exchanges, and global services organizations that are economically scalable due to the low costs of VoIP (Bradbury, 2007). In addition, mobile VoIP to support smartphones and social network integration are going to be commonplace within three years. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate how state-of-the-art advances in VoIP will impact the overall cost performance, efficiency, and global competitiveness of organizations in the next three to five years.…

This research paper tackles the issues that faces Cloud Computing today and gives the experts and industry’s point of view on the matter. The aspects explored are the significant industry questions that have risen about the use of Cloud Computing, business value, organization impact, adaptability, limitations, initial cost of implementation, and the severe business security risks due to centralization of resources. Brian Proffitt will argue in is IT World article [24], there are some serious limitations with cloud computing that is being blithely ignored such as bandwidth limitation, storage, and availability. Interviews conducted with colleagues that are experts in the Enterprise Systems network arena reveals that, the impact is all in planning before implementation, the selected architecture and the security policy. Findings in manuscripts and online libraries reflect that Cloud Computing is a technological revolution that provides computer resources as a service; offering flexible IT usage, computing efficiency through improved utilization and reduced administration and infrastructure costs. Users are not limited to applications confined to a computer, data stored to a hard drive, or bounded by the organization’s network. Also known as the sum of Software as a Service (SaaS) and Utility Computing, Cloud Computing is argued to be more efficient and scalable. My hope is to identify the common issues that face Cloud Computing in organizations that have implemented it, and find the answer or probable solutions.…
