Imperialism In China
"Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life.” (Thomas Caswell, 2012)I will study imperialism in China from the Europeans and imperialism in India from the British. There were both short-term and long-term impacts from imperialism, whether the lasted long or not. Imperialism, generally, was beneficial to a greater extent to the colonizer than to the colonized, however, despite the fact, the colonizer gave the colonized numerous negative impacts, imperialism was certainly beneficial for the colonized as well. Imperialism was surely very destructive to the colonized, but it was definitely beneficial and constructive as well, even if it left a limited impact.

Before the Opium Wars, the Chinese’s thinking weren’t that accurate. They had beliefs like Earth was a square, and heaven was round. But, now they realized their misunderstanding. This was a broad, long-term impact, because the Chinese know for a fact about their understanding of the Earth. “Despite their hatred of the West, the Chinese were led to a greater understanding and appreciation for it”. (Ye Sheng, H. Shaw, 2007) There were various positive impacts for the Europeans, and a less amount of benefits to the Chinese. Britain received various positive impacts from India. Britain controlled India’s political and social systems and had complete control over the country. Thus, the British took a lot of resources from India, such as silk, and “India became Britain’s largest trading partner”. (Makarand Sahasrabuddhe, 2012) Britain also spread their culture and religion in India. (Dawn, 2010)
Although, of the negative impacts, India also received positive impacts. Indians were introduced to modern technology. Sanitation and education was also introduced in India. India’s production of goods increased. (TKanick, 2010) All of these positive impacts were definitely long-term, they are continuing.
To conclude, as you can see that in China and India imperialism was quite effective and powerful, however it left positive impacts and helped the region to understand and develop it. Even though there weren't many positive impacts, imperialism led the country to a new
