Destroy your enemy by making him your friend While in high making school it wasn’t unexpected for my mother to see me storm in the door and throw my things to the floor saying,“ I can’t believe how much asinine drama there is in school”. My mother, just shaking her head always gave me the same advice; do unto others as you would have others do unto you. This famous saying goes hand in hand with the topic I have chosen; Destroy your enemy by him your friend. I wish to present this to future seniors of Derry Area High School. Hoping that the realization that I have discovered will help make their drama experiences a little smoother. When I was a sophomore I became best friends with a girl named Amber. Month after month we were inseparable.

After recently moving to Derry he was the first friend that I made. With me being a tomboy it has always come naturally easier for me to get along with guys. We fished; four wheeled, drank, and spent basically every waking moment together. One day in March of my junior year I walked into school alone, Jayar hadn’t met me out side to walk with me into school. I found this a little odd but I decided not to pay much attention to it. It was later that day that I would get the most heart breaking news of my life, Jayar had a girlfriend. My spirits sank, I felt that the only true friend that I had was gone. I asked Jayar to introduce me to her but he wouldn’t. For three months I was completely excluded from Jayar’s life. Finally I got the guts to approach this girl. I simply walked up to her stuck out my hand and told her my name. She turned out to be very nice. I later asked Jayar why he tried to keep us separated so long. He said he didn’t want to hurt me. After that Jayar his girlfriend and I became pretty close. From the Get-Go it was established that I was the friend and she was the girl

The title of the painting I am critiquing is Nine Angels at Revival Zion by Allan "Zion" Johnson painted in 1987, which depicts Jamaica's Spirituality. This painting is located at the FIU Frost Art Museum. The medium used by the artist was oil on hardboard, the surface of the painting was smooth with a few rough spots due to the natural element of the board. Some of the formal elements used throughout the painting are intense hues of red and blues with lighter shades of green and orange. Nine white angels are the focal point of the painting who are being cheered on by the people of the town. Neither the angels nor the people are drawn with detail in their faces. The artist also used basic shapes such as squares, rectangles and triangles for the buildings along with their bold colors. Although the painting is not completely symmetrical there is a sense of balance. The Linear technique was used to give the illusion that angels were floating up to the sky.…

This sculpture is at the Louvre Museum in Paris. It is a sculpture of a woman on the prow of a ship. It looks as though wind from the sea is rippling her dress. This sculpture is also known as the Greek Goddess Nike (Victory) (Bermosa 2008, Para 3). The statue is made of marble and is 10’ 9” in height. The artist however is unknown. The first art work chosen was a figure by Myron of Athens, Discobolous. The Discobolous, a Discus Thrower, is a Roman marble copy after a bronze original of 450 BCE. A picture of this piece is shown below, figure 1. This piece of art work is simply amazing and exemplifies the Greek sense of harmony and balance (Petronius, 2008). The artist depicted the statutes of that time, a male nude figure, which seems to express freedom of movement and the Greeks idea of beauty. Furthermore, this artwork exemplifies the role of the artist through a representation of human strength and values.…

The first two pictures that are being compared are Shirin Neshatb “Allegience with Wakefulness” 1994 and Jasper Johns “Three Flags” 1958. In the “Allegience with Wakefulness” is instrumentalist. It is instrumentalist because it is the writing on this person’s feet is not English and there is a gun between the person’s feet. This might be taken as things that are different from what we are used to be taken as threat. American people in general have a closed minded way of looking at things. The other aesthetic perspective for this art piece that are noted is linguistic. Linguistic are has symbols as well and the gun could also be seen as a symbol. It has words written in it too specifically on the feet. This artistic piece is powerful because it can have so many meanings to it and can mean many things to many different people. “Three Flags” is a linguistic painting. It is obvious that this is a linguistic painting because it is the American flag. The American flag is tied strongly to American culture. It is a symbol of our freedom. Imitationist is the next aesthetic perspective that is seen in this paper, obviously because it looks just like the American flag. The American flag looks like it is popping of the page because of the way they get smaller as they move forward. Both of these art pieces have a strong message behind them. The first one, “Allegience with Wakefulness” has a language in it that most Americans would not be able to understand. It also has a gun which could mean a lot of different things in this particular picture. The second picture “Three Flags” is pretty much the opposite of that. It is very recognizable for everyone in the American culture. It stands for freedom our freedom.…
