TTHE EFFECTS OF ILLEGAL RACING AMONG TEENAGERS IN MALAYSIA

In the article “Racing a Familiar in Adi’s Life", SukhairiAbdThani (2011) states that teenagers feels that racing gives them life. They are willing to use their money to change the look of their motorcycle. When teenagers start joiningthis activity, they feel that they gain lots of satisfication and benefits. However, they do not realize the effects of this illegal racing towards the teenagers in Malaysia. Illegal racing will lead to other social problems, all family members will get bad impact and make other road users in danger.
Firstly, the effect of illegal racing among teenagers in Malaysia is they will involve in other social problem. The percentage of social problems in Malaysia is increasing. According to Mahalik, Legan, and Mosisson (2007), about 50% and 35.8% shows that teenagers who involve in illegal racing may involve in social problem such as alcohol consumption, substance abuse, cigarette smoking and sexual activities. Besides, teenagers who beat in the competition and become winner of the competition will get some benefits such as money and women. Apart from that, a study by Li Ping Wong (2011), statistics shows that 35.8% teenagers who involve in the illegal racing are positive alcohols and drugs.
The second effect of illegal racing among teenagers is they will bring bad impact to their family members. Teenagers will bring humiliation to their family if they were arrested by the police. According to Datuk Abdul Aziz Yusuf (2008), maximum compound at least RM5000 of not more than five years will be judge to a teenagers who involve in illegal racing. Furthermore, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (2008), states teenagers who are still under age 18, if
