IELTS essay-Online Games
TOPIC: Many parents complain that computer games have no value to their children’s studies. On the contrary, those online games have produced a lot of negative effects on their mental and physical development. What is your opinion?
Over the past few decades, online games have become favorite way of killing spare time among teenager worldwide. As everything has double-edged impact, besides entertainment value, online games also exert detrimental effect on mental and physical development of children.
First of all, it is obvious that online games are highly addictive. In case children sit front of the monitor for many long hours, they are subjected to many physical problems such as obesity, near-sightedness. It is evidence in industrialized countries and less developed ones, according to recent research about obesity rate among adolescent in their countries. Less seriously, online games more often than not discourage the players from doing physical exercise or being involved in social activities. Instead, children live in game world, synthetic characters.
By the same token, indulgence in computer games is psychologically harmful. In fact, the content of those games are usually violent, aggressive. At tender and vulnerable ages, gun battles, brutal fighting will make children adopt hatred attitudes towards society. A good case in this point is Anders Brievik, a mass murderer who bombed and caused the death of 68 people in Norway, confessed that his anti-social attitude is derived from violent games he played. Also, their attention-span into study is likely to be distracted due to the deep obsession of appealing images. They hardly channel into lessons, assignment, for instance.
In conclusion, recreational as it is, online computer games also has the adverse impact in the long run on children. Therefore, the authorities and parents should bear responsibilities for guiding them to find a right balance between playing games and real life.

Thus if this goes on, our children could be badly affected in the future and suffer several mental problems like depression, irritation, short temperedness, sleeping problems.…
