IDEO has won more Business Week IDSA Industrial Design Excellence Awards than any other firm. This is in large part because of the support structure in the organization, culture and management style that enables IDEO to be innovative. Let’s describe each of these three traits in more detail. The organization of IDEO is simple; it starts with someone giving a timeline and a purpose as well as the goal. However there is no hierarchy because it is believed to hurt innovation when there are titles. That being said no one person thinks they have all the answers and are encouraged to do research outside of the office to get a better idea of product improvement possibilities. A quote from the documentary said it best”Enlightened trial and error succeeds over the planning of the lone genius”. This statement seems to define how the organization accomplishes its tasks. The culture at IDEO is innovative because the management that does exist cares about how their employees feel about their work space, even investing in décor that encourages creativity. The many backgrounds help to keep the culture diverse and on the cutting edge. The workplace is kept fun and seems to encourage free thinking without reprisal. The management style is quite different than what I have seen in the past. It seems they know that management is there to help keep them on task and not to run the task. It is a very hands off type of leadership that only got involved when people got a little off track and that seemed to be for time constraints only. This type of leadership seems to allow employees to embrace their jobs and enjoy them but also enhances the organization as a whole. IDEO seems to have found a very effective balance with how it organizes into teams and utilizes the diverse culture with a

The managerial style I chose: as HR person I would use Human Relations Managerial Strategy. This strategy helps to coordinate employees and supervise them. The organization is not big so it would be appropriate to have informal (grapevine) communication as well. This strategy will help me motivate employees both extrinsically and intrinsically to enhance task behaviour. With this strategy it will be autocratic decision making, so only top-level management would be able to make decision with minor consultation (Long, 2010). However the opinion of employees is important. Providing comfortable environment for work will increase employees’ motivation, their loyalty and performance.…

The company I currently work for is Henry Ford Health Systems West Bloomfield MI. And the President is Lynn Torossian. Lynn has only been with our company since December of 2013. Lynn has several leadership styles that have made a positive impact on me. One of the leadership styles that Lynn uses is Participative also known as democratic leadership style. While Lynn has the authority to make the final decision for the company she still values the input of the team members, peers and fellow employees of the hospital. Anther leadership style that Lynn uses is the Transformational leadership style. I have noticed that in the short period of time that Lynn is a motivator. She is always motivating us and sharing her vision of the future with us. Lynn also communicates very effectively with us through weekly news reports or via emails.…

According to the article and the exhibit 14.3, I believe that the corporation embraces the bureaucratic culture. This culture tends to be formal in general and in its operations. The organization structure appears to be hierarchical and all the decisions come from the upper managements to the lower levels. Also, the organization follows official and logical methods in its procedures, and it focuses on high performances within team members and it focuses on gaining high revenues. In addition, the employees in bureaucratic culture have clear views about the organization rules and about their work portrayals. The employees in general like this culture. They wear formal clothes and take their rest breaks at a specific time; and finally, they are…

Dennis Boyle, a senior designer at IDEO, was leading a team to develop a new hand-held device for Handspring called the Visor. The Visor was intended to compete with Razor, or Palm V project, a newest introduction of 3Com in its Palm devices line and was also designed by Boyle. It took Boyle almost 3 years to develop Palm V, while he had only 10 months for project Visor. In order to meet his client aggressive schedule, Boyle would have to sacrifice his team innovative process, which often takes longer time but produce much better results. Should Dennis Boyle try to persuade his client to delay Visor launch date for a more satisfying product; or should he accept his client request, which could potentially lead to less desirable outcome?…

The Morning Star Company uses self-management which is informal hierarchical structure. This structure defines that individuals can effectively direct their own activities toward the achievement of objectives, and includes goal setting, decision making, focusing, planning, scheduling, task tracking, self-evaluation, self-intervention, self-development and something else. The employees are the bosses of themselves and responsible for their missions. They listen to others and continually improve him/her. Add to this the benefit of being able to apply one's own creativity, emotions and the practical method of doing the work the decision-making in which the employees themselves agree on choices instead of the traditional supervisor telling workers what should they do how to do it and where to do it. They also have “CLOU” to help their colleagues to solve problems. And also allow their employees to have free rein for a portion of their time, pursuing projects that they find interesting or promising without requiring consent or authorization from management. It makes employees happier, more efficient.…

Nevertheless, a normal IDEO team is designed to fabricate more stable, completely framed thoughts since they are working full-time on the task, which is not the case for the OpenIdeo team members. Besides, the solutions from the community have a tendency to only keep tabs on an aspect of the answer rather than encompassing the whole problem. Thus the community often impacts only on some part of the issue instead of offering an entire proper solution. We could also underlines that this integration might cause trouble of…
