1.2 Describe the characteristics of the different types of schools in relation to educational stages and school governance.

Nursery School: These are financed by the government and cover the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Private Nursery Schools: These are financed by parents paying fees for their children to attend. They cover the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Primary Schools: These are financed by the government and cover the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2.
Secondary Schools: These are financed by the government and cover Key stages 3 and 4
Grammar Schools: These schools select their pupils by academic ability and are financed by the government. They cover Key stages 3 and 4.
Private Schools: These are funded by fee paying students and investment income. They cover Key Stages 1 through to 4.
S.E.N. Schools: These are financed by the government and cater for pupils who have special educational needs. They cover Key stages 1 through to 4.
Free Schools: These are financed by the government. They can be run by parents, teachers, local businesses, educational groups or charities. They cover Key Stages 1 through to 4.
Academies: These are funded directly by the government and also sponsors. They are run by a governing body which employs the staff. They cover Key stages 3 and 4.
Faith Schools: These are associated with a particular religion and financed by the government. They cover Key stages 1 through to 4.
Foundation Schools: These are financed and run by their own governing body which employ the staff and set their own criteria for admissions. They cover Key stages 1 through to 4.
