Fourth of July in Miami
In the United States, we find Miami, a city in Florida where everything can happen, where you can find people from all around the world.
I am not use to celebrate festivities from other countries, but sometimes special occasions happen, the ones that become really special memories for ourselves. Some time ago, I went to USA to visit my aunt, it was awesome, but the best thing that happened to me was to spend the fourth of July with her. She is not from the United States, but she says that the fourth of July is her favorite day of the year.
As we know, Miami is a part of the USA where we can find all kind of cultures, this is because of it is a strategic location for travelling. Also, we know that the “Fourth of July” is a very big festivity in the United States because everyone is celebrating the independence of the country, so probably is one of the most important days of the year for the country.
In Miami, people celebrate the fourth of July in a different way as the other parts of the country; this is because a lot of non-Americans live in Florida. On that day, my aunt woke me up earlier; she said that we were going to spend the day at the beach. When we arrived, there were a lot of families enjoying the day together, everybody was having fun. When I asked my aunt what was going on with the people, why was everyone being not really patriotic, she answered that people in Miami people use that day to have fun with their families.
I enjoyed that day doing a lot of activities like playing volley and soccer at the beach, but, the best moment of the day was in the afternoon, I saw that everyone was getting together and staring at the sea, some minutes later the sky was filled with fireworks representing the colors of the flag, it was amazing, at first I thought the people in Miami were not patriotic but after what I saw, everyone, even the people who are not Americans are together hugging and

    3. John Lewis Krimmel: The Fourth of July in Philadelphia, c. 1811: By the early nineteenth century, the Fourth of July celebration of American independence had become a popular holiday, especially among Jeffersonian Republicans. (Federalists commemorated Washington’s birthday.) This detail from a painting by John Lewis Krimmel links the new nation to the Greek and Roman republics through architecture (the building and the statue), notes its social diversity (by including blacks as well as whites), and hints at the tenor of its social life. The young man buying an alcoholic drink and flirting with the young mother may well engage in some rowdy behavior before Independence Day is over.…

Miami has very long and unique history making itself different from other cities. What makes Miami different from other cities is the profound affect the Cuban and Haitians immigrants had in that current time and forward. How major events like the Cold War (1947-1991) which was over the struggle of capitalism vs. communism affected the growth of Cubans and held back the Haitians in Miami. Events like these cause the Cuban people to advance while on contrast barely help the Haitians. Cubans have advance more politically than Haitians because of the “Golden Exiles” arrival, government funding, and dominating the republic party.…

The room was very bright and felt very tropical. Once we got unpacked, we went down to the beach and ate lunch. After lunch, we saw two of my aunts and their families. Then, we went swimming in the ocean, the pools and laid on the beach. By supper time everyone had arrived. We spent most of our days eating together, swimming, playing beach volleyball, and laying on the beach. I got to spend my birthday in Punta Cana and I got to go on a catamaran, on a banana boat tube pulled by a boat with my cousins, and we had a special dinner at the Italian restaurant on the resort for me. My family and I were also there for the Super Bowl. They had a huge inflatable screen that they projected the game on. They had huge buffet of food and workers on the resort dressed like football players. My brother and my dad are Denver Broncos fans, so they were very happy with the result of the…

"What to the slave is the fourth of July?", by Frederick Douglass, explains how Douglass viewed the celebration as mockery, a slap to the face for all African Americans. The Fourth of July is a holiday to honor the day that our country separated from England. It is a day to remind each of us of our freedom and our individuality and how fortunate we are to have it. So, as a slave who has neither individuality nor freedom, this holiday only served to remind them what they lack, and how they are considered inferior, according to Douglass. He states in his speech, "The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me".…

Miami, FL is a place that has to be felt rather than seen or heard—and by that I mean observed beyond all senses, with mind, body, heart, and soul. I’ve been entrenched in it my whole life, a little Cuban princesita not so different from all the rest, but it’s only as I’ve gotten older that I’ve fully felt like a part of a community, a culture. I feel it when I talk, casually, to the elderly cashier at my neighborhood grocery store, a familiar combination of Spanish, English, and what many call cubanismos, phrases with meanings that simply will not tolerate literal translations, spilling forth. I feel it while seated at a table of no fewer than four relatives on any given evening, judging the quality of a restaurant on the quality of their flan de caramelo or their café. I feel it, too, in the colorful songs of Ernesto Lecuona and the ardent verses of José Marti, but most of all in the anecdotes of my grandparents and great aunt, the nostalgia of long-settled immigrants, echoes of sorrow, shared over dominoes and rice and beans and coladas of espresso.…

When school was over for the year, Grace Toone looked forward to the July 4th celebration. Her mother, Clara Jones Toone would make new dresses for her girls. She was good at sewing and took great pride in having her girls look nice. On the morning of the 4th there would be a patriotic program at the church. In the afternoon, the town would gather to the square and run races, or ride bronco horses. Grace’s favorite was the ice cream. The 4th of July was the only time of year you could buy it.…
