The endocrine system is a series of glands within the body. These gland impact a lot of our body including calcium levels and what we find joy in ( the pituitary gland releases dopamine if we enjoy something). Because there are so many glands in our bodies, there are a lot of things that can go wrong. Two of the things that could go wrong are Hyperthyroidism (overactive Thyroid) and Hypothyroidism (underactive Thyroid). While they are both malfunctions of the Thyroid gland, Hyperthyroidism has more impact on not just teens, but everyone, than Hypothyroid does. Hyperthyroidism is when the thyroid gland releases too much T-3 and T-4. Hypothyroidism is, alternatively, when the Thyroid does not release enough T-3 or T-4. A few of the main causes of Hyperthyroidism are Graves disease and toxic adenoma. Hypothyroidism is caused by iodine deficiency, radioactive treatments, and even by the treatments for Hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroid can be treated with a synthetic thyroid medication or with a transplant of a pig’s thyroid gland if the condition was caused by a partially formed or the lack of a thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism is easier to resolve than Hyperthyroidism even though Hyperthyroidism has a wider variety of treatment options. Though they are very similar, I believe that Hyperthyroidism has a bigger impact than Hypothyroidism.
