Homework Isn’t Bad Everyone has done homework sometime in their life, but probably many of them never liked doing it, and thought it was a waste of time. When students have to do homework, sometimes teachers think it’s a waste of time to grade them, and to put them in the grade book. Homework isn’t as bad as some people think. Even though sometimes it can be a burden, homework can help students practice their skills, it helps students learn to take responsibility and use their time wisely, and it lets parents see what their child has been learning in class. Students may not like homework all the time, but it is helpful in many ways. Homework can be anything from a worksheet to an essay. Many students say that it’s not worth doing homework, because it takes time. Even though it takes time, every single piece of homework helps students learn and practice what they have learned in class. Students can excel and learn faster in class, while practicing their older skills also. The faster students can learn, the more knowledge they can obtain. Homework can inspire students to learn more and more to the point where their brain explodes (Which it will never do). Homework can teach students to apply their knowledge to the real world and how it can be used effectively. Math, Science, English, and all other subjects can be used throughout the world, from reading a newspaper to calculating the area of your house. While homework helps students practice, it also helps them learn to take responsibility and use their time wisely. Some parents say their children are stressed and are not getting enough sleep, because of the huge piles of homework. However, homework is designed to help students to use their time wisely and efficiently. In an average classroom, students tend to not do their homework until the last moment, which in other terms is called procrastination. If a student try’s to finish an essay the night before it’s due, the students probably going to be tired and non-energetic the next day. Most of the time when students feel stressed is when they procrastinate, but in some cases it can be from just too much things to do. When students feel stressed their parents can see it, and that’s when usually the parents tell the teacher. Teachers can feel the pressure when parents complain about their child and then tension builds up between the parent and the teacher. Sometimes when this happens teachers would give more homework, give less homework, or just get mad at the parent and student.
Homework helps teach students to take responsibility and helps them learn to organize themselves. Homework gives them the responsibility to take it home, finish it, and bring it back to turn in to the teacher. It teaches the student to organize and make sure to not lose it. Every student gets a grade for completing and bringing their homework the day it’s due. It is their responsibility to get a good grade and keep up with their work.
Not only do the students have to take responsibility, but the parents have to also. Some parents complain that they don’t know what is going on inside of their child’s classroom. However, if the parents look at the student’s homework, they can see and keep track of what their child has been learning. Students should be responsible enough to stay up to date with their parents, and discuss what they have been doing in class.
Homework shouldn’t be thought of in a bad way, but it should be looked at as a helpful tool given by the students’ teacher. It helps students practice their skills, it teaches responsibility, use of time, and it lets parents check on their students’ progress in class. Homework isn’t a burden, it is helpful in many ways, and everyone should think of it in a good way.
