Hurricane Katrina-Personal Narrative
It is 2005. The wind is screaming, the water is racing down the windows, and I’m screaming my heart out, terrified. Mom and dad are crouched down on the floor covering me up and my grandmother begins racing to find a place for us all to go. “Damien, come help.” my grandmother calls.
They try to get all of the food and water they can get, but suddenly everything turns black. The lights are out and the power is gone. The hurricane starts coming. “Here are some candles.” my mom screams as she searches through cabinets and boxes. “I found a fan too!” My grandmother is panicking and grinding her hands into my mom’s skin. It starts getting hotter and hotter. My dad tries to shut and board the windows, but we get a leak. I glanced at the window and there was an ocean outside. There was water everywhere.

A tree crash lands like a plane on the ground almost damaging the house. My mom starts crying, my dad is frightened, and my grandmother starts panicking. “I think the storm is only beginning.” my dad sighed. The next few days were rough for us. It was hot and stuffy. We had little food, but just enough to last us the next few days. The house was slightly damaged, trees fell in the yard, and some things were missing. Luckily no one was injured or killed in my family.
“Hopefully the power will come back on soon.” my mom yawned as she woke up.
“We don’t have many candles left and the batteries that we have left in the flashlights could die soon.”
We went a few more days without

The short of the week was about a woman that lost her house in the hurricane. The person interviewed is one of the "survivors of Sandy" that talks about how upsetting it has been losing her house and most of her belongings. Most of the visuals are footage of the house with only the basic structure standing showing that her house is completely empty and also showing the "black water" that destroyed her house. Also putting slow music and setting a sad mood with the footage of outside the house with dead flowers. But as the lady starts talking about how she has overcome this lost by saying that her garden is more beautiful than ever, showing roses and new bloomed flowers. I can sort of relate to this story because I saw my girlfriend go through…

The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina may be remarked as a very important aspect to understand the relationship between federal, state, and local governments when it comes to major catastrophe. In Katrina’s case, federalism is seen as central to what was largely a government-created disaster. Numerous scientific articles are trying to offer various interpretations of what went wrong and why; however, out of all perspectives, I find Stephen Griffin’s argument most persuasive.…

I was about four years old when everything went to chaos and destruction. But what three year old would feel frightened or afraid of ever breath, not knowing if it was their last. As a child, I was ignorant and naive to what was happening around me in the world. I didn’t know that the city surrounding me, would soon be drowned and submerged in the legendary Hurricane Katrina.Though I was only four and couldn't recall many details of the catastrophic event, my mother remembered everything. We had heard two weeks prior ahead of time what was to come, however my mother having always been a strong-willed woman was determined not to leave despite the attempts my grandparents and father made for her to evacuate New Orleans with me and leave.Yet,…

We were on our way to Biloxi, Mississippi when we decided to go to New Orleans to start our vacation off. We arrived in New Orleans at around nine o’clock in the morning after driving for sixteen hours. We immediately stopped and got something to eat. After we finished we were back on the road. We walked around New Orleans for three or four hours. On the way we saw numerous things. We stopped a couple of shops, went to see the Gulf of Mexico, and eventually got something to drink. It was ninety-five degrees outside and I thought I was going to die if I didn’t drink something. It was one of those get-me-out-of-here moments. New Orleans overall was very interesting and it was a great way to start our vacation.…

Everyone has peaceful and strange events that occurred in their lifetime. There are several chances that one expects something pleasant to happen and it comes true. On the other side, an occasion doesn’t appear when somebody expects it. I can explain this with my personal account of Hurricane Sandy, an event that occurred on October 29, 2012 and ended on November 2, 2012. This affected the northeast portion of the United States. As a result of this event, I had lost power, had a tough time doing tasks, and took my education away. On the other hand, I was thankful that the disaster ended a few days later.…

Water started to drip from the ceiling as the cracks look as if they were cracking even more. We put a bucket to obtain the water and whenever it was full we would boil it or drop a water purification tablet to kill the germs and bacteria in it. The winds felt hard trying to break through the door. I prayed that the hurricane could be over with so that everything could be fine again and we waited praying as a family in unity. We were really worried about the food and water because we had almost finished more than three fourths of our food in three days. Soon after I shared my food with my family and I ate a a little as usual. Some of my family was starting to get sick so I too out my first aid kit and supplied them with whatever they needed. We were all tired as we stayed there and talked to each other. For the rest of that day we just slept, and in the morning it was all gone. We peaked through the doors and saw that the hurricane was over everything was destroyed but we were…

Hot. Humid. In other words, the usual New Orleans summertime day. Now all the local media were buzzing with the new Katrina tracking information. Many people were going about their usual Saturday routines. Some were still oblivious to what was happening. Greg had the kids. I got up, cleaned the house, and washed all the clothes, so if we left (I hadn’t decided for sure yet), I wouldn’t have to do it when we returned. I filled up at a nearby gas station and went shopping. There was an eerie feeling of nervous uncertainty in the air. Supplies were beginning to run out and there were long lines at the gas stations. You knew that people were asking the same question: “Is this the one?” The process of contra-flow (all Interstate 10 lanes going…
