Humans Fear The Judgment Of Others In The Scarlet Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
This story is mainly based off the scene where Dimmesdale is standing on the scaffold and asks Hester and Pearl to stand with him, but he is too cowardly to do so in front of the public eye. Dimmesdale ends up being dragged away by Chillingworth, and Hester is once again left on the scaffold by herself. The theme of this scene is “humans fear the judgement of others” because Dimmesdale is very scared of the Puritan society and their thoughts. I really wanted to portray this theme in my story, and how sad it is that humans fear others this way.
