Humanism During The Italian Renaissance
The idea of humanism was created during the Italian Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance began during the 14th century and ended during the 16th century. Humanism was centered around the importance of human being and their achievements. Due to the interest in human achievements humanist thought that individualism was important. Many people loved the idea of individualism because it celebrated people’s uniqueness. As society became aware of humanism, the role of people in society changed drastically. (Baker) The first way that humanism changed the role of people in society was that it put pressure on people to become more secular. Society felt that the first step to becoming individuals was to stop focusing so much on religion but to rather explore who you are as a person. There was no response because the humanist knew that they would possible be prosecuted for their ideals and because of this they created a new branch of humanism. The new branch of humanism was called Christian humanism. Christen humanism combined the studies of Greek and Roman works and the Christians values. (Baker) People noticed that they had the freedom to do what they wanted and they could still be connect to the church. Christian humanists remained loyal to their faith while not having any restrictions on human capabilities. By the 16th century humanism had a huge impact on every aspects of society. Many people during the Renaissance accepted humanism. Humanism had different branches so everyone could fit in. Humanism transformed the ideas about individual’s role in society. Humanism stressed the importance of secular thinking and human potential. Humanism helped to change the role of individuals in society.
