Human Trafficking During Slavery
Human trafficking is eerily similar to what occurred during slavery and it appears history may be repeating itself. Although slavery was made illegal and African Americans were freed, society may not even realize that an almost identical issue is occurring in their back yards and perpetrators aren’t targeting any particular race thus anyone is a potential victim. Human trafficking is a very serious global issue that has been in the shadows and that many like to pretend doesn’t happen. Many of us don’t realize the gravity of this major issue in society until it happens in our own communities. According to The Washington Post “more than 250 victims of human trafficking and nearly 70 human trafficking suspects were identified in Northern Virginia”
