Everyone in the world is born and biologically equipped with unique lenses. These lenses determine how we use our senses to interpret the world and ultimately influences how we go through the world. Why do we all have different lenses? Wouldn’t we understand each other better if we saw the same thing the same way? Probably, but what fun would that be? Living life according to the same things another person does. Wouldn’t you want to see something special? This very important concept is called, perception.…
People get different types of information from their surrounding through different senses. We have five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. We rely on it, but it is well known that our senses can deceive us. Our perception consists of sensation and interpretation. Interpretation is provided by our minds, so each person has different interpretation. This can led to the problem of misunderstanding between people.…
Sensation and perception plays two complimentary but totally different roles in how we interpret the world around us. Sensation is the process by which we sense our environment through touch, smell, sight, taste and smell. This raw information from our sensory organs is then transmitted to the brain where perception is made. Perception is our way of interpreting what these sensations mean and how to make sense of it.…

As we began the experiment, there was a tranquil and quiet environment. But as time passed disturbances and laughs were affecting how well I was able to distinguish the food and even the smells. According to the signal detection theory, the environment, our moods and attitudes play a great role in determining what we can or cannot distinguish. Although I was not able to detect some of the food and smells, I was able to distinguish most of them. I believe that being able to identify something in detail by how they feel, smell, or taste is connected to the Absolute threshold theory.…
The perceptual process is a sequence of steps that begins with the environment and leads to our perception of a stimulus and an action in response to the stimulus. This process is continual, but you do not spend a great deal of time thinking about the actual process that occurs when you perceive the many stimuli that surround you at any given moment.…
Perception is a process by which an individual organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. Perception is a process that all people take part in as we move through the course of events in our daily lives. When we meet people, make business decisions, evaluate performances, or pass judgments, our perception surrounding such events help persuade our next course of direction (Goldstein, 2006). In a sense, perception, accurate or flawed, is our reality. Robbins (2005) defines perception as a process that individuals go through, influenced by surrounding stimuli and sensory impressions, to define their surrounding environment. Causes that shape or distort our perceptions have a tremendous effect on the impact of an organization's behavior. Individuals, by nature, develop perceptive shortcuts when passing judgment and inflect both positive and negative effects. In exploring perception, we can see how decisions are made in real world organizations and how these perceptions shape ethical and moral decisions.…
