Human Papillomavirus
HPV is short for Human Papillomavirus. There are hundreds of types of HPV. Studies show that every 3 out of 4 people get HPV. There are not many signs and symptoms of the virus therefore many people that get the virus don't even know. A lot of people think only women can get HPV. This accusation is extremely false. Both female and male can be infected with this virus. A person doesn't necessarily have to be sexually active to get HPV. If you and a person with this virus have genital contact it can be transmitted to you.
HPV can be on the skin, fingernails and throat. According to some recent studies HPV can raise cardiovascular disease risks.
There isn't any "HPV Test" therefore if you show none of the signs or have no symptoms such as genital warts, you will not be able to know you have it. Genital warts can have many different appearances. To name a few, it can appear to be raised, flat, pink, or flesh colored. They can also be small or large and single or multiple. Genital warts can be on the anus, scrotum, penis, cervix, throat, groins and thigh. For most people HPV can clear on its own. For others it may lead to Cancer.
