Human Development throughout the Lifespan
A powerful way to understand people – Essay
“Change is inevitable,” even though most people acknowledge that their lives have changed over the past decade, they don’t believe change is constant. However, in the belief of the writer, with time our personality grows and changes when traumatic events come along the way.
Socialization is the process of human development where factors including family, friends, school, workplace influences us and shapes our personality. Throughout life, we experience many events, the events could be traumatic or cherishing but what matters is how it affects us. Life, lessons and experiences help us to look at the world from a different angle and have our own perception of different aspects of life. Compared with external factors, such as a pay rise, getting married or finding employment, personality changes with time.
Several large research studies conducted over the past few years show that a person's personality naturally changes over the course of adulthood, in response to life events such as entering a committed relationship or advancing in a career. From the ages of 20 to 65, people report increases in positive traits, such as conscientiousness, and decreases in negative traits, such as neuroticism. Most people tend to become more emotionally stable. In other words, their personalities improve. In a longitudinal analysis, 8625 individuals were examined Big Five personality measures at two time points to determine whether an individual’s personality change or not. It was then proved that personality changes at least as much as economic factors and relates much more strongly to changes in life satisfaction. Results therefore suggest that personality can change and that such change is important and meaningful.

Socialization is a learning process that begins after birth. People act in accordance to the feedback and reactions they get from others. We learn who we are by family, friends, and the people around us. Socialization is an important process of our personality, language and behavior. It is not always a conscious or an intentional transference, and people are not always aware that they might be influencing someone in a social situation. The very structure of authority and the responsibility of families, schools, and media may determine which values, attitudes, and beliefs people adopt.…

Personality influences how people think, feel, respond, judge, and their well-being and life decisions. Therefore, personality develops the character traits of individuals. As written by Twenge and Zhang (309) based on two meta-analyses carried out on young Americans, a majority of them believe that their lives are subject to forces outside their efforts. The subjects of this study, who were mostly college students and young children between the ages of nine and 14, showed that for most people, personality predetermines how they interact with others around them. The role of personality in shaping individuals' lives has been considered by several scholars, who believe that people are driven by their personality, which, in turn, shapes their…

My full name is Christina Kaysone Chantharavongsa and I was born March 23, 1995 in Bridgeport Hospital located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was a little city and a small world since a ton of people would know each other. My parents were in an arranged marriage and were both moved to the United States from Laos during their high school years. But I’m actually half Laotian and Thai since my mom’s side is Thai from Thailand although she was born in an Asian Southeastern country called Laos. I’m the second oldest out of four children with two sisters and one brother. The order goes from Sarah, Christina (me), Kenny, and Anita. From my very first baby photo, I was described as a giant tomato because my face was red like one. My first words were like any baby can typically say: mama. Since my parents spoke mostly Laotian at home, saying mama would be “maeh” (Language Development). My infant years around 2 or 3, I was considered a curious one. I’d always liked to climb on top of chairs to see what were on the tables and I tended to dig through drawers to see what kind of items I would find in there then chew on it. My favorite thing to chew on was a Barbie doll ( Piagment, Sensorimotor stage). I was pretty clumsy as a toddler and my parents weren’t very affectionate towards me (Trust vs. Mistrust). I remember then until now we had strained relationships. If I did anything wrong or if any of my siblings did, they would hit us as punishment. Wooden spoons were usually used, getting our hair pulled, and getting the side of our face smacked or punched.…

In modern psychology, the “Big Five” Personality Traits are five categories of personality that are used to describe human personality and the behaviors in which they differ from each other. Some researchers have concluded that adult personality change is genetically influenced. Researchers say individual differences in the “Big Five” traits are large and highly stable and, an adult scoring high or low at a certain age is likely to do the same at another age, with intervals of three to 30 years’ time (Costa & McCrae, 1994). In more than 150 longitudinal studies with more than 5000 participants, reanalysis showed personality trait stability improved during early and middle adulthood, peaking in the fifties (Roberts & DelVecchio, 2000). These traits are broad categories of personality traits and not all researchers agree on the names given. However, these five categories that remain stable throughout adulthood are: neuroticism, extroversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness.…

Socialization is the way people interact with one another on a daily basis. Humans interact in many ways on the phone, the internet, through the mail, and in person face-to-face. There are several agents to socialization; three of them are family, religion, and the workplace. All of these social roles are portrayed in a different light, and as life situations change social roles change. Things that can change a social role are a person going from being single to married, having a first child, being a rehabilitated drug user, or a change in religion or job.…
