HRM593 Employment Policy Manual Guidelines
HRM593 Employment Policy Manual Guidelines
Purpose:
This manual is to provide you, the student, with a reference source for your future endeavors in either the private, public or entrepreneurial world that you enter into after completing your course of study.

The manual will serve as a comprehensive quick study for those of you in the future to assist in both Human Resources and General Management.

This is a group assignment in which all members of the group are going to share in the production and grading of the final product.

Layout:
The final product should be placed in a binder to present to the instructor of the course completed in week eight.

Presentation:
Week Eight of the course will require that students present the document completed to discuss topics included in the specified sections with input from other groups as to what material may be lacking or added for completeness of the manual.

Outline:
I recommend that you assign group members specific chapters from the course textbook to prepare capsule summaries of the material covered by the authors and to generalize the material to also include class discussions and examples to serve as reminders of the material presented and the best practices in the industry based off of class conversations and input from real world sources being you.
You will hear the phrase, the gun and the bullets as an example, for the material to be included and the reason.
Why? Employees know why some things are done, but do not necessarily know the reason i.e. the laws and statutes that mandate why employers are required to do what they do and this manual will provide you with both in a quick study or review format for future use.

Requirements:
You are preparing a summary of the chapters from the text book and you can label your sections accordingly. You are responsible for inclusion of the laws and statutes that are noted in the chapters. (copies of the laws are not required but how and where to locate are advised.)

There are many different functions and roles of law in the business society. When describing employment law, there is a broad area that governs how employers interact with their employees, former employees and applicants for employment. These laws and regulations are not meant to be described in a short paper. They are detailed laws that require application to an employee’s specific situation and should be discussed at length to ensure the correct interpretation of the regulation. As an office manager that was put in charge of the Human Resources department of my organization, I was thrust into a world of complex laws that took many hours to understand. To be given this type of “fight or flight” role in my company was stressful to say the least. Ensuring compliance with federal regulations regarding organizations such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or learning about COBRA laws should be administered by someone with many hours of training in employment law. To be thrust into the fire of this situation at my company was careless of the management and they were ripe for a possible lawsuit if an employee felt the regulations were out of compliance. It is for this reason that I chose to evaluate the website of the U.S. Department of Labor and the website of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. As an HR professional these websites are very helpful in outlining the laws and regulations that apply to each and every employee.…
