1) What “modern” practice related to human resources management do you observe in the management principles of Laidlaw Leeds?
With the increasing of number of customers, Robert Laidlaw changed his organizational structure in to departments. In addition, add each process in to each department. Product department such as clothing, hardware, leather goods and administrative department such as correspondence, dispatch, office. So dividing each task in to various departments then we can save time and can keep accuracy of whole organization. Because it is very easy that handles a small group rather than whole organization. Apart from that, Robert Laidlaw carefully supervised and monitored each department. Planning the organizational structure was the essential part for each organization which was done by Robert Laidlaw.
In fact, he held some weekly meeting every Thursday after the business. There he checked whether performance of the staff and what were the issues in his company. In my opinion, conducting meeting is the fundamental principle in Human Resource Management which is also happening in these days. In fact, Robert Laidlaw was a teacher rather than manager. He always gave values and principles to his executives and staff. He always helped to their employees, always working together with them and also coaching to her staff. But we can’t see this situation within some of companies. Managers get maximum output from their employees with imposing various kinds of rules and regulations.
Laidlaw spent lot of time with his executives for hunting, fishing, watching rugby matches. Not only that, finally he organized some trips to gulf island that build employees moral. Developing relationship was the main purpose why he arranged these types of events. He already knew that one day it may be affected to organization for the betterment of prospers future. Nowadays most of companies arrange some functional activities like annual get together. So that time employees can
