There is a supposed "glass ceiling" when it comes to women in the workforce. This "glass ceiling" is a metaphor for a presumption that women are not able to reach the top of the business ladder because of their gender. Today, Hispanic-American women face challenges living between two cultures, and one of these is in employment. The so-called "glass ceiling" is even lower for them. Hispanic-American women receive reduced wages and are forced into stereotypical fields because of stereotypes and discrimination, and from their education.…

Also, she claims that racism stems from the fact that Hispanics are “considered a nonwhite race”. Asian immigrants are a nonwhite race, but their educational achievements disproves that racism creates an indestructible barrier to success. Being that both Asians and Hispanics are part of the nonwhite group, they should face the same amount of racism, and thus share a similar degree of adversity. The 2000 census shows that 44% of Asians over the age of 25 held a four-year college degree, 26% of Whites over the age of held a four-year college degree, and 10% of Hispanics over the age of 25 hold four-year college degree, thus proving that being a nonwhite does not ultimately limit educational opportunities.…

DWB is a familiar term among most of American, which is an abbreviative form of “driving while black”. This phrase implies that a motorist might be pulled over by a police officer because that person is black, and he or she will be questioned or charged with a trivial offense. The place could be either on highway or white community. This term refers to racial profiling, which defined as the policy or practice using race or national origin to find suspicion by law enforcement officials (ACLU). For example, African Americans are easily pulled over on highway because they are judged by hiding drugs in the car potentially, even though they are asked for consent to search the vehicle. Racial profiling occurs at US port entry commonly and especially targeted on Arab ancestry because they fit the profile of a terrorist. Racial profiling is any use of race, skin color by law enforcement agents as a guideline to search suspects in order to protect nation safety. However, in use of racial profiling in law enforcement is unfair and disrespectful to minorities, ineffective to search criminals, and waste police sources increasing social cost.…

Affirmative Action especially causes a reverse discriminate effect against Asian Americans, although also against Caucasians. The reverse discrimination caused from preferential treatment to African Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans discriminates against Asian Americans because they lose spots at colleges that they would have otherwise received. At the UC San Diego Medical School “chicanos were offered admission at five times the rate of whites and nineteen times the rate of Japanese Americans. [Asian Americans are a] nonwhite, racialized minority [that are] being hurt by [Affirmative Action]” (“Race and Representation: Affirmative Action” 273). If the goal of Affirmative Action is to reverse discrimination done to minorities in the past then Asian Americans should be included in Affirmative Action programs, not discriminated against further. College Affirmative Action programs completely ignore, if not intentionally harm, Asian American students. Statistics shown from the “University of California Berkeley show that 41 percent of the students attending are from an Asian American background [up from 20 percent before affirmative action was forbidden]. On the other hand only 14 percent of the students attending Harvard University” (College Reviews by Students for Students – College…

Racial Profiling is defined as the use of an individual’s race or ethnicity by law enforcement personnel as a key factor in deciding whether to engage in enforcement (make a traffic stop or arrest)(Wilson, 2004). Due to public outcry and protest, Racial Profiling has been researched extensively. Most research has found that there is no relative information that police disproportionately stop people of color for traffic violations as oppose to white motorists. Others research has shown that some police officers stop motorists of certain racial or ethnic groups…

Racial profiling or racially biased form of policing (especially recently in the United States), is any police action initiated on the mere basis of race, ethnicity, or national origin of a suspect. This is a form of discrimination that is used to target the ethnic, minority communities. Profiling in law enforcement occurs when government agencies and officials decide to investigate a person on suspicion, and the detained suspect committed an illegal offense, based solely on their ethnicity and racial identity. Arrest should be determined and made on the behavior of that individual or on information that leads police to a particular individual that has been identified as being, or having been engaged in some type of criminal activity. Racial profiling was an issue that arose over 40 years ago and has resurfaced as a bigoted practice unworthy of the law enforcement professional. It has been and should continue to be widely condemned as contrary to the basic ethical principles. Furthermore, such particular type of action weakens the…

Racial profiling has been a very heated issue from past few years. Race and location are the dominant characteristics authorities look at when engaging in this type of profiling. The undeniable pattern of race-based stops by police is a dilemma that millions of African-American and Latino-American motorists regularly encounter on this country 's highways. This phenomenon has been sardonically dubbed as "being pulled over for "DWB" (Driving While Black or Brown). This play on words of DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) refers to the commonly employed police practice of using an alleged traffic violation as a pretext to stop any black or Hispanic motorist they suspect of being involved in criminal activity unrelated to driving. These officers have no legal cause for carrying out the stop besides enforcing traffic regulations. Being subjected to a DWB stop is,…

Today, the most common form of racial profiling is done by the police and targeted toward African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans. It is otherwise known as "DWB", "driving while black" or "driving while brown" (St. Clair and Cockburn). This refers to the practice of police targeting African Americans and any other non-white groups at traffic stops because they believe that minorities are more likely to be engage in criminal activity. My first real public attention of racial profiling by the police happened two weeks ago, when the Nassau police pulled me over in long island. The officer look at my license and replied what am I doing out here, (being I had a non Nassau county address) I was told 2 get out of my vehicle with no specific reason. I was then give given and order to stand…
