How I Would Improve My Community
“HOW I WOULD IMPROVE MY COMMUNITY”

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you” B.B. King

If I were given the chance to improve my community, I would try to build a safe haven for youth from violence, gangs, and etc. With the recent outbreak of violence, I feel that my community especially would benefit by having a recreation center that would have activities, gym equipment, and studio equipment that would occupy the time of youth and put their energy to good use. The rec. center could also offer education opportunities as well, such as tutors, online courses, GED classes, job placement, college/university enrollment, and much much more. Youth don’t only need help in their social life but we need help with our education endeavors as well. If this could come true, I would be the first to donate ALL of my spare time to the cause, because WE ARE STILL THE FUTURE!!! If you really think about this, the youth of Chicago, have no place to congregate, legally. Most clubs are 21 and over and most parks close at 9pm. If we put 2 and 2 together, we wind up with young people dying, for NO reason. I believe that if we had a center similar to this one with reasonable accommodations such as snacks, reasonable hours, and a low cover charge the youth death rate would drop. I’m not a stingy person, so if this was to be successful on the south side of Chicago, I would want it to expand all over the state of Illinois, to the other 49 states, and eventually worldwide, with each center named after someone or some organization that is willing to help youth.

On the same note, I would love to expand my idea into other avenues, such as a place for the elderly to go and mingle with others. I have a firsthand outlook on what an elderly person that doesn’t get out much goes thru, my grandmother. She doesn’t get like to go out places where she doesn’t know the crowd, but if there were an accessible center for her to visit, with

The building has the capacity to have many different activities and serve more seniors with the current staff. This allows multiple activities to take place at the same time, for example, seminars and workshops in one area, card games and puzzles in another and exercise in yet another. The Site Manager and the volunteers could effectively continue to serve if more seniors used the center without an increase in the cost of staffing. Seniors having a place to come and socialize and helps maintain independence is a strength of the center. One study noted that “compared to home care users who had not previously used senior centers, previous senior center users do have lower levels of IADL, and ADL impairment”CITATION Mil04 \p 21 \l 1033 (Miltiades, Grove, & Drenovsky, 2004, p.…

Making plans to renovate or build a facility takes a lot of work and planning. One of the main considerations is to take a look at the community and the needs of the people in the community. On the south side of Chicago, Illinois the Roseland community felt the need to establish a supportive living for the older adults who reside there. Out of this need came the development of Victory Centre of Roseland. Developed by Pathway Senior Living, this facility provides a safe, affordable place for the older adults to reside without living his or her…

I feel my community will greatly benefit from a facility dedicated to these healthcare needs. I see patients that are mentally challenged and some who have Alzheimer’s that need help with their activities of daily living or just with care in general. Helping others that cannot help themselves is what I enjoy doing. I understand opening a long term care facility will take a great deal of planning from obtaining licensure, to locating perfect area, and securing contractors to build. The most important healthcare resource ever to be hidden in plain view would be the caring intentions of…

But the pros certainly outweigh the cons. We need to make the city a better place for our future generations. It's certainly more effective if we have less teens in trouble this solution also makes use of a building that is just sitting unused in Ludington. This may help keep our kids in our area stay out of trouble because they will have a place to go after school which is better for the economy. we could ask the teens themselves to help donate time fixing the building up after school. Or we could ask Westshore Community College if the kids in CTE would help fix up the building for College Credits and ask parents who are willing to donate time and services to the rehab as well. To save money for ludington we could also get volunteers to help run it. There could be a reading spot with wifi and a spot to do homework. You could get the local food trucks to park out front so kids could get food and drinks…

If we can renew communities, we might be able to successfully fight against crime. We could build stronger communities through grants for community improvements and citizen Crime Watch associations. The youth would have more after school activities to keep them occupied such as marching bands and computer classes. Most importantly there should be more of a police presence at some schools.…
