How Volleyball Changed My Life
One of the most significant, influential days in my life thus far occurred when I was in eighth grade. I had made the varsity cut for volleyball. This might sound shallow to most people; I got into a team, great, but what is the big deal? For me, it was, however, because this one thing that happened, that day, changed my life forever.
Getting into a varsity team in eighth grade shaped the rest of my high school years. Being part of a team in which your age is a drastic outlier makes you particular to the rest. Everybody wants to know who this middle schooler is. Becoming a thorough athlete was distinctly harder for me than for the rest of my teammates. Not everyone can manage this situation; it takes maturity to be able to take what you have and use it to your advantage. In my case, such maturity since I was thirteen years old led to most of my leadership and vocal skill. I am now sixteen years old and continue to flourish the team that I feel I have taken a crucial part in.
I have no reservation with eloquently expressing my opinion in any topic. I can take initiative in most activities that require teamwork and commitment. Furthermore, I can disregard any issue not concerning a specific task in order to complete it with no emotional disruptions, and I can open my mind to people and ideas considerably different than mine. Consequently to the mental abilities that I have learned and developed by playing a high-level team, I have been able to apply them further in my life as a high-school student.
Being in a high-level team since an early age also contributed to most of the people that currently surround me. Exposing myself to relationships with older people still prevail as most of my closest friends are older than me. This is not necessarily a good thing. Nevertheless, contributes to the person I am
