What happened to Amelia Earhart?
During the time that Amelia Earhart was sprouting into adulthood, women were just starting to stand up for their wants and needs, including operating an aircraft. Amelia started her first flight lessons on a sunny day in January of 1921 (Historychannel1). Amelia had troubles learning to fly but with the help of her very trusty flight instructor, “Neta Snook,’ Amelia ultimately achieved her goal of flying (Historychannel1). She competed in the air and was one of the first women to fly. Her successes were inevitable, but her career was unfortunately cut short after her plane crashed as she attempted to circumnavigate the world for the second time (what happened to Amelia Earhart). After many years of mystery, scientist and specialist have investigated what led to disaster and what really happened to Amelia Earhart on her last flight. Amelia Earhart was born on July 24th, 1897 in a small town named Atchison, Kansas (History.net1). Amelia took her first flight lesson in January of 1921(History.net1). …show more content…
One sunny day in the middle of May, Amelia Earhart and her partner, Fred Noonan set out on yet, another journey to circumnavigate the globe (what happened to Amelia Earhart1). Unfortunately, this one did not end so well. Amelia and her partner ran into a great deal of problems on their last ditch effort for Amelia to be the first woman to completely circle the world by slipping past the barons of earth (What happened to Amelia1). On the last leg of the flight Amelia was supposed to stop at a small secluded airport on the Howland Islands and refuel her small Lockheed to make her final few miles back to The United States Of America (What happened to Amelia2).     This first theory is the most accepted by citizens. People believe Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, got off course at a refueling stop at Howland Island in the Pacific Ocean. So, they radioed the U.S Coast Guard. Amelia couldn’t spot an island in the distance, and the plane crashed and they sunk, killing both of them. It left no sign of where they landed. A second theory is Earhart landed safely on Gardner Island, but died before getting rescued by the U.S Coast Guard. The T.I.G.H.A.R recently launched a 7th expedition to try and search for more clues that relate to Earhart. A third theory is she crashed on New Britain Island. It rests at the eastern edge of Papua New Guinea, which was right along the path of Earhart on her final legs. This theory was made by an Australian Army man claiming to find a plane with a “Pratt and Whitney” serial number. Earhart had a “Pratt and Whitney” serial number, but so did many other planes, so this theory is unlikely. A fourth theory is Earhart survived and made her way to Guadalcanal.
