Read each chapter ahead of the lecture.

First review the chapter to see the main subheadings
Use the text and images together, most of the study guides are tied to images

Attend all lectures and labs

Ask questions in class if you do not understand the textbook or lecture material.

Bring your textbook to lecture and note the pages where study guides answers are located.

Take notes where you write down the key points for the topics coved in class; do not try to write down everything the professor says.

Keep up with the class in your reading and studying.

Remember that in high school most of the work is done in class, while in college most of the work (2/3s) is done outside of class. So create study time in your schedule.

Complete study guides soon after the lecture.

Complete study guides yourself and before studying with others.

Study for exams in terms of the main and sub-topics for each chapter-lecture.

When studying, place details into the larger picture of the chapter/section.

Tie the material to things, people, or events that are part of your life (relevancy).

If you have questions on course material or need extra help, go see the teacher.

If you need help with study skills or test taking skills, go see the teacher.

Use the free tutoring available in the writing/testing center (first floor MH112)

Complete all the homework on time.

Take all tests.

Submit your paper topic, paper outline, and completed paper on time.

Budget enough time to develop and write a good paper.

Attend lectures and come a bit early (first few minutes are often a review).

Take charge of your education.
