How To Stay With Jewels: A Narrative Fiction
Jewel and Mary, her best friend were building a snowman. Mary would be staying with Jewel for the Holiday because the snow storm had kept Mary’s parents trapped in a faraway city and they wouldn’t be making it back to Portland in time for Christmas day.
“This Christmas is the worse.” Murmured Mary, patting down a huge snowball that would form part of the snowman’s body.
Jewel looked up from her own snowball and frowned, “Why do you say that?”
Mary sighed, “Mommy and Daddy won’t be here to celebrate Christmas and I won’t get any presents.”
“You’ll still have me and your nana and my parents.” She gave Mary a hug. “You won’t be alone and Santa will bring you lots and lots of presents.”
Mary smiled, but she wasn’t so sure about that. After all, what was Christmas without presents, or parents? …show more content…
Mary shrugged and dragged Jewel into the warm house, saying, “He’s probably a homeless.”
Jewel’s eyes grew wide, she thought, “Don’t all homeless got o shelters when it’s this cold?”
After drinking her chocolate, Jewel looked out the front window, to see if the little boy was still there. She gasped with surprise when she saw him walking up and down the side walk as if lost.
Asking her mom for a spare cup of hot chocolate, Jewel went outside, followed by a curious Mary.
“Aren’t you cold?” Jewel asked the little boy when she reached his side.
The boy jumped startled and fell in the snow. Looking down, he shrugged, saying, “A little, but I don’t mind.”
Jewel handed him the cup of hot chocolate and watched him eagerly drink it without blowing on it. This made her and Mary giggle.
When the boy was done, Jewel asked, “Don’t you have a home?”
The boy’s eyes filled up with tears as he said, “My home was burned down yesterday, I was so scared that I ran away and when I wanted to go back to my grandmother and sister, I couldn’t find my way back!”
Jewel felt so sad, she sure wished she could help him, or at least make his Christmas a happier
