How to Revise and Improve an Essay

Chapter 9 In this chapter I learned how to revise my draft and improve my essay. Revising my essay took some consideration because you don’t want to cut out too much stuff but at the same time you don’t want to ramble; the reader only needs to know the facts about the topic. It makes some time to revise an essay because you constantly have to read it over and over again to make sure that it sounds right and flows correctly. A key thing to do is imagine yourself as the reader. What main things do you need to know and how clear you are making the facts.
Something that may help you is to have someone else ready over your essay and make little notes on how it can be improved. I always let my husband and my sister in law read over my essays because they will give me corrective criticism that I take to heart and their opinion matters to me a lot.
It will give you an objective opinion and offer you suggestions to make your essay that much greater.
The more people read your essay the better it is for you because they may see things that you over looked. A key thing to do with essays is to focus on one thing first. You might want to revise the paper a couple of times before you edit it. Most people cannot do both at the same time. It helps to revise a paper a couple of times before editing it, that way you know that you did everything you could to make your paper great. I always read over my papers at least four or five times to make sure that there are no corrections I want to make. I also make sure I spell check the whole essay because sometimes when you are typing you get on a roll and misspell words and there is nothing more embarrassing that that! The last thing I do on my essay is use a thesaurus to change common words into similar words that way I doesn’t sound like a broken
