How to Prepare for a Storm
How to Prepare to a Storm
There are so many storms that are going on in the United States at the moment. You never know what is going to happen to your town. For example, New York didn’t know they were going to have an earthquake, which happened during the summer. That shows that any storm can happen anywhere, so always be prepared. Different things like snow, ice, high winds, severe thunderstorms, tornados, and hurricanes can cause power outages. Depending on the destruction, it takes time to het power back on, clear away debris, deliver new poles, wire, transformers, and other equipment, and to do the actual rebuilding. There are many things that need to be done, in order to survive the time period without electricity and other necessities. By being prepared for a storm, you can prevent further damage to your home or injury to you family.
First, one of the main things that should be focused on is having an emergency kit. Water bottles are need in the kit; if there is a winter storm, the pipes for water can easily be frozen. Nonperishable foods are also needed in the kit. When the power is out during a storm, the food in the refrigeratot and freezer will soon go bad. It’s probably better to have a lot of canned food because the stove may also be out, unless it’s a gas stove. The kit also needs to have a battery-powered radio, flashlight, and clock. Since there is no electricity, you need to know the time and get updates about the storm from the radio. No electricity means there are no lights, so you would definitely need a battery-powered flashlight to get around. One would also need to have cash in the kit. There is a nine out of ten percent chance that if there’s no electricity, the ATM will not be working also. Extra batteries are needed also.
Second, you will need an escape plan. You should make sure your vehicle is full of gas. If you know that there is a storm approaching. There might be a time where you have to drive to a safer place. If the power goes

To the local community communication challenges took place because Mother Nature does not care about keeping today’s technology in working conditions. Once the power goes down what is the point of technology for citizens in the middle of the disaster area, they cannot receive information on where to go, if help is on the way. Because of Mother Nature’s way of approaching upon so many areas in the United States and around the world each community should start disaster programs to teach each person on survival, there are so many ways to communicate with community in learning techniques. In the first few hours following a disaster there are many things that need to be addressed. In the scenario presented, one of the initial messages that must be presented is water safety. Informing the public on the rationale of why their water is unsafe is important in helping them understand the necessity of boiling it before use to prevent illness. Also informing them of where they can obtain a safe water supply is crucial. The availability of temporary shelters and housing is also important in the first hours and days following the storm since many people may have had to leave their homes due to flooding, loss of power, or structural damage. Making sure citizens understand the dangers posed by downed power lines and the steps they should take when encountering them is a health issue as well. Proper food storage and handling is also critical when there is a lack of power in many homes. Knowing how long food will last in an inoperable refrigerator or freezer will help prevent foodborne illness.…

They finally opened the doors up when I felt like quit trying. I ran inside to feel safe, the hurricane had probably destroyed my house by then. While outside the bunker I felt the tremendous winds pulling me in. I had the necessary stuff to survive the storm for a week. I had a first aid kit for the times where I needed a cut to be cured or someone got sick, canned food so that I could make a fie and use the can to cook it inside of it, astronaut food so that I could use water to make it, cutlery such as a pocket knife or scissors because at sometime during the disaster I I would need to cut something, rope so that if I needed to tie something together, matches to start a…

Be especially aware of ice on bridges and overpasses. The cold weather makes it dangerous to get stranded, and the more remote the areas you travel are, the harder it will be for rescue crews to find and get to you. Always make sure your vehicle has plenty of gas. Maintain a winter survival kit in your vehicle. In the event you do not arrive on time, law enforcement officials will know where to search for you and your vehicle. Be aware of your location in the event you need to summon help or call 911. Plan ahead and select your route before you leave home or business. Give yourself plenty of travel time. If the storm becomes too much for you, please take refuge immediately. Finally, it's critical to pack well and have a "winter survival kit" already in your trunk. A road trip in the winter without the proper planning and supplies could turn into a disaster. Make sure you pack enough food and water for yourself or at least for 2 people for a week worth of goods. In case you do get stranded, you will have the supplies needed for winter survival, and you just have to act on it. Have some cash on you at any time. Here's a basic winter off road kit to get you started. You can add items to the list as needed: Off Road Winter Survival Kit Cell phone's rechargeable cord. In some mild cases the most damage you will see are trees laying on the street, and trash cans and trampolines a few feet away from where they are suppose to be. As it starts to get worse roofs begin to fly in the air, and houses begin to shake vigorously. In the worst weather the city is left as a pile of debris. (www.wmbfnews.com)…
