How To Lose Faith In The Book Night By Elie Wiesel
The Holocaust it’s a tragic and horrible event that occur where millions of innocent people died. Night, an autobiography of Elie Wiesel; where he tells the readers what he went through, things that no person should ever have to go through. It has been shown through the story that Elie is going through a lot and will continue to see and feel different emotions. You can tell that Elie has stop having faith in God from every movement he does, it shows that it has impacted him in many ways that will also affect the things that he will say and do. First and foremost, One of the biggest and most recognizable change that Elie went through was that he lost faith in God and himself. He shows it through his actions and from what he says and thinks in the story. In the beginning of the novel it’s shown that Elie is crying while praying "Why do you cry when you pray?" (4). Therefore, his family members must also be religious and occasionally praying and relying on god to hear them out. For example, when he got sent to the ghettos and in the cattle car he would pray and thanked God. Therefore, that was his protection; a sign that he believes that they will be saved. The Nazi’s were brutal to the Jews, they would abuse them and make them starve to death. Elie had to go through that in the camps. He had to put up with the abuse and the hunger. For example, one major thing that affected Elie was when his father died. At this point he has a completely different attitude; “I shall not describe my life during that period. It no longer mattered. Since my father's death, nothing mattered to me anymore” (113). After that nothing seem to touch him; he was angry how the Nazi’s abused his father.
