How to Hard Rock Cafe Success
Hard Rock Café is a success story in operation management. From its very first London pub in 1971, after 39 years of existence Hard Rock café continued expanding and succeeding in many different countries. This paper will discuss how the 10 decisions of the Operation management were made on Hard Rock Café as well as operation management challenges and opportunities confronting Hard Rock Café when considering an expansion of its business in Hanoi.

1. Critically evaluate the operations management strategy of Hard Rock Café as described in the attached case materials.

Hard Rock café has won continued success since it was founded in June 14, 1971 when the rock music was explosive in England. Hard Rock Café has uniqueness and more importantly it has launched an excellent strategy in operation management. Experience strategy has helped Hard rock café grow from its first Café to 129 world wide locations. Bellow is the discussion on some out of 10 decisions of operation management run on Hard Rock Café.

Taking the success of the Hard Rock Café into consideration means considering its service quality and product design. The Café offers a range of services from cafes, live music, Rock concerts to hotels and casinos. They serve customer by “modifying the menu from classic American – burgers and chicken wings- to include higher-end items such as stuff veal chops and lobster tail” (Heizer & Render, 2010). And of course, its quality must be the top charts. Some tactics they have implemented include an extensive Point-of-sale system (POS), which captures transaction data on nearly every person who walks through a cafe's door. The sale of each entrée represents one customer. They forecast monthly guest counts, retail sales, banquet sales, and concert sales (if applicable) at each café.     From the case (HRC), I identify 10 operations management strategy decisions are applied at Hard Rock Café. The first is design of goods and services. HRC customer do not just want a meal, they want an experience. So, HRC’s product is not only the food, they also provide drinks, music, memorabilia, rock concerts, retails...etc. They create and test products for customer satisfaction and cost is one point of their success. Customer recommendation make HRC improve their food, music and services. The second is the quality. HRC hired the quality people, then trained them to provide the quality services to the customers. The third is process design. I think this is the most important. A good food production process can decrease the money cost and time cost, and make sure to provide quality meals. Also, a good process of receiving the customers can make the restaurant receive more customers in peak time, increase the efficiency and table turnover rate of restaurant. HRC works to create products in an efficient manner, analyzing them for cost, quality, and labor requirements.
