Back in 1969 getting a C on a test or homework was acceptable. However, as the day go by, it seems that getting a C is the “mark of Cain.” Why is that? A professor from Duke University and a visiting scholar to Stanford University, Stuart Rojstaczer, asked that same question. After doing his own research, he wrote the article “Where All Grades Are Above Average” which analyzes the phenomena that is commonly known as grade inflation in several universities and colleges. There are several good techniques in making good grades. First, it is very important to attend all the classes. It is sometimes especially difficult to arrive and stay awake during early morning classes. So, preparation is important. You must go to bed early, sleep well, get up and have a good breakfast. Studies show that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day, providing 50% of the nutritional support that a student needs to succeed.” Carrying a cup of coffee to class is a good addition to breakfast. Once you arrive, note taking is very important. Next, it is important to study and review notes immediately after class while the information is fresh. That way you can study the things that you didn’t understand well in class. Making time to study after each class prepares you for the quizzes. And studying after each makes the final exam much easier because instead of “cramming” the night before the exam, you only need to do a little review. It is of course very important to turn in all homework assignments. Homework accounts for 20% or more of the final grade. Lastly, the most important ingredient needed to make good grades, is the right attitude. You disposition is of great importance. If you want to make good grades, it is easier to put in the time required to work and study hard. With the appropriate dedication and planning the path way to good grades are as simple as following a recipe for…

Make things interesting. Logical arguments will not give you motivation to study. Thinking that if I study hard and get into a good university and get a good job, etc., will not interest you. Love what you do. Try to find the beauty of every subject, and most importantly try to link it with the events of your life and things that interest you. This linking may be conscious (ie. performing chemical reactions, physical experiments or manual mathematics calculations in order to prove a formula) or unconscious (eg. You go to the park and look at the leaves. Then you think to yourself, Hmm, let me review the parts of the leaf we learned in bio class last week). Even though this might not sound the most ideal method for theoretical subjects such as English, use your creativity to make stuff up. For example try to write a story with all subjects starting with S, all objects starting with O, and no verbs containing V.…

A good student is not a clever student only. If we talk about a good student, there are two important aspects that we must consider. We can say and decide a student is good if the student can fulfill these two important aspects, which are related with the student’s intelligence and behavior. If a student has a good intelligence and behavior, she or he must be a good student.…
