There are many people who would strongly agree that being a Christian means you can not possibly have fought in the American Revolution, or at least you shouldn’t have. Christians should have supposedly stayed away from all of this, but this is just false. Not only is this statement wrong, but it is kind of confusing at the first glance. Why would a group of people need to stay away from a war that is going to probably impact their present and future life? Why shouldn’t Christians be involved when one of the main reasons of this war was to fight for freedom of religion?
War: this word can change one’s life forever. Everyone is affected whether now or in days to come. No matter who you are you will experience the consequences of war. “But after the search for weapons, I had a different feeling about it: it was real and it had come home to me, too” (Collier and Collier 62). One group that was involved was the Christians. Many say this is unacceptable, but it is really not. First, why should Christians not be involved when war will affect them, just like anybody else. Second, the reason many came to America was for freedom of religion. If the king was to take over America, the freedom would be lost. The English Christians wanted to be free of the church of England; they would fight or get involved in some way to keep their freedom. Many would say that in the Bible it tells us to obey our authorities. While this is true, there are exceptions. One’s conscience will normally tell what is right and wrong. If one’s conscience is bothered by something to the point that they can barely function, one should listen to it.
