How Is The Story Told In The Minister's Black Veil
In “The Minister’s Black Veil”, Nathaniel Hawthorne suggests that some people find it easier to create outlandish stories rather than face the truth. Hawthorne discusses this through the reaction of the townspeople. The townsfolk question Mr. Hooper’s reasoning for the dreadful veil he wears. They are scared that Mr. Hopper may have found about about their secret sins.
When Mr. Hooper, the minister, shows up for church wearing a black veil covering his face, people start to question if he is really their minister. “‘Are you sure it is our parson?’” (Hawthorne, 1) asks Mr. Goodman Gray to the sexton. He is in denial that Mr. Hooper would wear such a mysterious veil to church.
