How Is Abigail Presented In The Crucible
The Crucible play has many characters, but how could one forget Abigail Williams? Abigail has the most influence over her friends and this is shown throughout the play. She is very proud and manipulative in any situation. Her character stands out and shows the readers how her character portrays the time period of the evil in the witch trials.
Abigail Williams is not a victim of her society. She is very manipulative and has control over all her friends in the play. Abigail treats the girls very poorly and acted if she could have gotten away with anything she wanted. If anything the girls are victims of Abigail's rude actions towards them. She was a attention seeker and very dramatic. Abigails personality of being manipulative ultimately led to innocent people dieing. Her actions can not be excused because of the influence of outside forces upon her because everyone has a conscience and knows right from wrong. She chose to go down the wrong path and gained power by being evil. Innocent people were killed because of her lies and this really strikes the readers. Her actions could not be pardoned because the lives of innocent people were taken away by her being selfish and only thinking of herself. Abigail's affair with John Proctor was a past event that truly affected the way she acted. Abigails past events cause her to try and shift the focus away from herself by accusing others of witchcraft. Abigail lies to avoid severe punishment for witchcraft, adultery, and attempted murder. In the Puritan society Abigail's attraction to Proctor is a sin, but can be forgiven if she refused to acknowledge her thoughts. Abigail does the opposite proving how her character is a villain. Abigail's willingness to discard Puritan social restrictions sets her apart from the other characters, and also leads to her
