My company is Bombora, an online business which allows people to design and create their own customised surfboards. It is located in
Byron Bay in Australia and focuses on; quality Australian made surfboards, good vibes and a love of surfing the open waves.

1.0 Introduction 

This brief has been prepared following the publication of a recent article by Ben Grubb, reiterating to management how adding an offline component could benefit Bombora. The article suggests the isolation caused by employees working online from home, can limit opportunities for; creativity, teamwork

The article suggests a risk of telecommuting is social disengagement, with Paul Pichette, Googles chief finance officer stating “working from home could isolate employees from other staff” (Grubb, 2013). An implication for individuals like Bomboras employees, is social disengagement. According to Kraut et al. (1998) social disengagement correlates with “an inferior standard of lifestyle and decreased physical and psychological health. Increased social contact produces a happier and healthier employee, both physically and mentally”.
Creating an offline workplace for design and customer interaction for Bombora would limit implications of social disengagement and its affects on the employee. 
 2.2 Loss of Teamwork

In the article, Pichette states that the “magical moments” of collaborating as a team attribute to the development of the company, personal development and stronger communities (Grubb, 2013).
