How Has Management Influenced My Life
According to Mr. Claude Quinton, management can be defined as getting work done through others efficiently and effectively. Management plays an important role in an individual’s life, group, society or an organization for the smooth running of tasks being done effortlessly with great output, correctly. The main management functions are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. Others include hiring, firing, motivating and supervising.
For as long as I can recall management has shaped me into a better individual through self-management. When I was younger I can remember mommy always ensuring I go to bed on time to get a needed night’s rest to be able to keep up with school and social activities, this taught me time management. When I had reached the elementary level of my education I was allowed the privilege of managing my own money and here I learnt money management. By the time I was a teenager in high school I had to learn first-hand the importance of ‘flying on my own’ as the managerial figure in my life wasn’t around to supervise me. At this stage in my life, I had to put into play all I had learnt from a tender age to then, this also taught me self-management. This influenced my life in a great way as I learnt responsibility and to depend on myself and to manage my own time wisely.
In my young adult years I had my first job. My managerial figure was in the category of first-line manager who had to report to a middle manger quarterly on my overall performance through evaluation. Her managerial role portrayed the interpersonal skill as she motivated and encouraged me to get the job done or I would have to suffer the consequences of having a poor evaluation report, being placed on probation or being fired. Also apart from being fired I liked the feeling of being able to make my own money so this in return motivated me more. Throughout this stage in my life I had developed proper time management, budgeting and discipline. Management has influenced my life

Managers are seen to be leaders in an organization. The dictionary defines a leader as one who is in charge and in command of others. In order to be a leader one must have a mind of his own and believe in what they think is right from what they think is wrong. One must be self aware, having confidence in who they are and standing by every decision they make. It is important for managers to be introspective and self aware because once you know who you are and what you stand for, you will let no one deter you away from your beliefs. As a manager, critical thinking is a key factor, L. Dyer wrote “Critical thinkers are self aware, curious and independent. They introspect their own thinking process”. I believe that in order to understand your strengths and weaknesses one must be self aware. It is this factor that allows businesses to grow and flourish because you know where you stand with your strengths so you endorse those strengths. “Self-awareness is crucial when building a team” as a manager I believe one should not only be self aware but also aware of their surrounding and when I say this I do not mean the birds and the trees I am talking about their employees and future employees. Knowing your strengths and where you want to go in your business allows you to better recruit employees and have a better relationship with them. Having the right team of individuals who complement each other working towards a common goal makes managing so much easier, ultimately creating a successful business.…
