How Hannah Hennings Changed My Life
I always say people do not know what they are missing until they try it. I feel this way about many things; things like food, travel, new experiences, and even friends. I thought I had my life all figured out, and that I did not need anything more than what I had. I stayed that way, until I became friends with Hannah Hennings. My life suddenly screamed new colors and my attitude flipped. I did not know life could switch in such a drastic way. Hannah Hennings is a relatively new friend of mine, but she has changed me in more ways than one.
When I made it to my junior year, I thought I had already made my friends for life. I was not necessarily open to new relationships, and I was not overly social. I did all of the same things and did not bother branching out. Hannah Hennings and I first bonded on the night of homecoming. Neither of us had dates so we danced the night away and just had fun together. After that, Hannah and I started to hang out more and more, bonding even more through speech. In February of 2016, Hannah and I both participated in individual speech. She was participating in the poetry category, and I was participating in the prose category. We both helped each other in practice and gave each other tips to get better. Hannah made it all the way to All-State Speech with that

When I became friends with Hannah, I had two main people that I spent all of my time with. Now, with Hannah leading me in making new friends, I have an entire group of people that I can trust with anything. Hannah encourages me everyday to be positive and keep my head up, because there will always be a silver lining. Hannah pushes me to my limit, even when I think she should leave me alone. If I had not met Hannah, I am not sure that I would have tried out for the spring play last year, which turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my whole

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Change is only if the person wants to change; people will not change if they don’t want to. According to Holden, certain things should never change and should stay the way they are. Change starts with the person who is willing to change. Many people change when they’re around different people, do different hobbies, or have a more positive/negative outlook on life.…

I also missed her because she wasn’t available to hang out very much and when we could our choices of things to do were limited because we couldn’t run around. I also remember being disappointed when she left school early during the first few weeks after her injury because she was funny and nice and I missed having her around for the rest of the day. Amandas injury and experience also affected me because it opened my eyes to what it was like to navigate the world from a wheelchair, especially when there are things you are used to being able to do easily that now require more effort or time or the help of someone who can walk. I realized how things as simple as carrying your lunch to your table become a challenge, and that it is frustrating not to be able to pick up the pencil you dropped on the floor. However, her injury and in many ways being isolated from society also affected me because it made us closer. She wasn’t able to go outside for recess because it was winter and the playground was icy. This made her separate. However, I stayed inside with her and we talked and played games and this brought us closer as…

Over the years that I’ve been at Burdick, I’ve gained many great friends, but I also lost a few. Only a few selective of them, I tell my secrets to. For example, Kaiden, Coreena, Dakota, Elysium, Joelle, Jose, and Isaiah. They’re the greatest friends anyone could ask for and have. They’re loyal, truthful, understanding, funny, witty, sarcastic, and just plain awesome. I have them to thank for making ordinary moments, extraordinary. They’re always there when I want to hang out or vent out my feelings. They put in that extra effort to understand me for who I am, not caring the slightest bit about my flaws and imperfections. And if I ever need to shed some tears, I know that at least one of them will be there to comfort me. There are times where…

    Spirit Day Research Paper

A few years ago, I was just a freshman, who was intrigued by every aspect of my school. I was surprised to see that there is a hang out place called Senior hills, and that’s where most of the seniors hang out. There was also a specific room where most musically gifted kids hang out called the Band room. And lastly there is A quad, where kids love the color black, and could spend all day reading manga. As I wonder where I belong to in this huge melting pot, I met a group of older girls in my geometry class, Jordyn, Hannah, and Ally. Jordyn insisted that I should hang out with them, since I’m new and need guidance. They showed me to my classes, and taught me about spirit weeks and rally days. They said we should use spirit days to show school unity and look cuter than usual. One day, during lunch, when we were all dressed up as hippies in our trendy bohemian clothes chit chatting about what to wear for tomorrow spirit…

During the four and a half days we were traveling, I was constantly next to three people. We drove hours together, ate together, slept together, and walked dozens of miles together. It is hard not to consider them best friends after that. I think it’s pretty stupendous that there was a girl in my room who I had ever said a word to on my own. Now, we laugh like we have been friends forever. Additionally, I chatted with people on my bus who I barely talked to. We got to visit interesting places which created lasting conversation. If our school did not go to Washington D.C., I never would have befriended these amazing people. What is more valuable than friendship?…

For example, my only friend was Heather and I wasn’t sure if she even came to West Middle School. I was worried that I might do something unwise and impolite. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. I looked around and everyone seemed as polite as a dolphin. I walked into school and got to my locker as swiftly and I could. When I got to my homeroom, I instantly made a friend. She was polite and kindhearted. I immediately knew that I was going to like West Middle school!…

I tried my best to fit in but arriving at a completely new area and having to make new friends was an extremely scary thought for me. I didn’t know anyone, I didn’t have any friends, and I felt isolated. All I wanted to do was go back to California to the familiar faces I left behind. As the year progressed, I was forced to break my shell and interact with others in my class gradually becoming more confident in myself and making new friends. The internal battles I had to endure in me becoming more social eventually taught me not to be afraid to build relationships. Learning this at an early stage was very beneficial to me because now I am not afraid to talk to complete strangers and even befriend…

Maria Housden shares: “The truest measure of a life is not in length, but the fullness in which it is lived” (6). This quote goes along perfectly with the heartwarming and heartbreaking story of young Hannah Martell as she handles her illness with positivity while teaching those around her valuable life lessons along her journey. While reading Maria’s recount of her difficult journey, my emotions were greatly affected, my perspective on life transformed, and I was awed by the acts of by others after Hannah had passed.…
