How Does Shakespeare Present The Conflict Between Romeo And Juliet
Conflict is the clash between two or more parties; which has strong links to the spur of the moment decisions. During the Italian Renaissance there had been a great deal of political anarchy. Shakespeare has conveyed this in the text through the feuding families: Montagues and Capulets. In the first scene we are introduced to the conflict between the families with members and servants of their respective houses. The insult of “I will bite my thumb at them, which is a disgrace to them,” helps convey the tension of the fight between the families. Benvolio tries to stop the fight but is threatened by Tybalt who wishes to kill him. This suggests a character foil between Benvolio who desires peace and Tybalt who isn’t afraid of tension.
