How does poverty affect obesity around the world?
Introduction
In my Individual Research I will be talking about how poverty links to obesity and different illnesses and diseases. Obesity is when a person is overweight and has a lot of excessive body fat in their body. Being Obese is a huge concern as this could lead to different diseases and health issues. The Illnesses that it could lead to include heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. Even if you are not obese, losing weight will definitely improve and prevent the chances of having health issues. The main causes for poverty in Africa is the harmful economic system, so many people cannot find a job. Many people in Africa do not have the money to afford any food, not even basic food like bread etc. Conflict and Violence within Africa also leads to poverty, all of the crops are ruined and no one have anything to eat. The population of Africa has been increasing rapidly over the past 50 years. In 1950 there were around 221 Million people living in Africa. In 2009 the population has increased to 1 Billion people living. The more people there are living in Africa; the food has to be shared between everyone. This means everyone will get less food, as the population is so big. It is said by the Guardian in 2011 that an average women will give birth to an average of 5 children in her life. This is the reason why Africa has the highest population growth rate. Everyone believes that Africa is a place full of war, diseases and illnesses. In fact, Obesity is turning into a big issue in Africa. Around Africa, it is filled with fast food restaurants such as McDonald’s. If you were living in a place full of fast food restaurants, a normal human being would be tempted to eat fast food meals as well. This is also the reason why Obesity is a huge problem in Africa. This leads to my next point, Africa has the highest neonatal death rate, which means babies dying within four weeks of birth. The reason for …show more content…
The number of people in Obesity is also increasing year after year; reducing the number of people Obese would be a good idea.
Best Case Scenario: The Best case in scenario would obviously be if the percentage of people living in Poverty drops significantly and also the number of people being obese decreases. If poverty does drop this would mean everyone in the world would be able to have clean food, water, housing etc. This will also mean everyone will be able to eat healthy food which can reduce the chances of having Obese or Overweight people. This will also mean a clean and happy place for everyone to live in.
Worst Case Scenario: The Worst case in scenario would be if the amount of people in poverty increase and the number of people being obese or overweight also increase. This would be bad as poverty number increases, which means more people will be living in poor living standards. They will also be forced to eat unhealthy foods, which can lead to obesity and weight
