How Does Lee Show Courage In To Kill A Mockingbird
In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, I believe courage is a main point in the story. Courage is strength in the face of pain or grief. Sticking up for others, helping others that are in danger, and sticking up for yourself. To Kill a Mockingbird, has many examples of courage and they all show different meanings of what courage can do and how people show it during different events that happen. Having courage can cause something very succesful to happen without you knowing. Sticking up for others is a big part in courage. Many people may be scared or afraid for standing up for someone, but Atticus was not. Atticus got chosen to defend Tom Robinson (Lee, 75). Many people showed respect after the case. However, Bob Ewell did not think he needed to be appreciated. Bob instead decided to spit in his face and tell him he will get him back (Lee, 217). Atticus didn't let this bother him. He just began to make jokes about this. He doesn't care what Bob thinks of him. Atticus could of made this a big deal, but with his courage he acts like nothing happened. He still goes on with his life. He has lots of strength in the difficult times of the novel. Just like this, Bob is really mad at Atticus, but Atticus shows the amount of courage he has when Bob is threatening him.
Anyone can have courage if they want to. People normally can't choose if they want it or if they don't. Characters in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee show many types of courage.
